Hello! My name is Verity and I’m a second year (going into third year) English and Philosophy student. I have been in filmsoc for two years, and have really enjoyed being a part of it! Being in this society has been a highlight of my university experience, and I would love to become a part of the committee to also allow people to have as positive of an experience that I have had. I have loved being able to talk to so many people, all with different film tastes, and share a love for films. I am so enthusiastic and passionate about films, and being in this society has been so enjoyable!

As Secretary, I would continue the amazing work that has been done with this society already, fundamentally by keeping on top of the admin roles. I have had experience with this through my previous jobs, with organising and helping events run smoothly, and doing behind the scenes admin. Most importantly though, I would ensure that I put this society first, and that the work of Secretary would not fall onto other committee members. Additionally, I aim to collaborate with the welfare secretary to ensure that each society member feels confident being a part of this society, and that within the committee itself everyone is able to happily fulfil their roles.

In being on the committee of this society, I would love to increase the amount of themed screenings, each of which is chosen by the audience! I would love to hand more control over to the audience of this society, and allow more screenings where the film is chosen by them! Within this, I would love to have more themed screenings, where we have a night centered on watching an audience chosen film based around a certain genre. I have found sometimes the audience picks are a little daunting to attend as the range in film genre sometimes overlaps into genres I tend to avoid. By introducing screenings which are audience picks in a specific genre, I hope to make these screenings more comfortable to attend for everyone in the society! Alongside weekly screenings, I would love to increase the amount of events like pub quizzes which we do. I have enjoyed the pub quizzes this year a lot, and continuing these events across the next year of this society is incredibly important to me.

I would absolutely love to be Secretary for filmsoc, as I have really enjoyed being a part of this society, and would love to continue the work of an amazing committee and society so far. I am a dedicated worker, and would place the happiness of society members at the centre of my aims if I were to be Secretary. I would love to be a part of this committee, and feel although I would absolutely be able to do this society justice.

Hi I’m Izzy and I’d love to be your new Secretary for FilmSoc next year! I’m currently in my first year studying English Literature, and I’ve loved being a member of FilmSoc for this past year as it has created such a positive and social environment, one of which I would love to continue to help provide next year. FilmSoc has felt like the perfect mix of a friendly community as well as a chill space to share a love of film, something of which has really benefited my university experience thus far.

As Secretary, I not only aim to ensure the society is well organized and provides the best experience for its members, but I also want to ensure everyone is able to experience and appreciate film to the degree in which they please. Therefore, I propose having weekly screenings on alternating times (for example Mondays commencing at 5, and Thursdays commencing at 6), in order to accommodate for as many schedules as possible. I also believe that the most important element of any society is for members to feel they are a significant part of the community. Therefore, I would advocate for using Instagram polls to vote between two movies for some showings, instead of committee members directly selecting a singular movie for the screening, allowing the community to have the final say in what films the society decides to put on. I would also attempt to radiate this onto socials and events by integrating groups more through participation in teams, allowing for a closer-knit society in which every member feels seen and appreciated.

I would love to be on the committee this year as, above all, I deeply care about film, and have seen how much it can impact my life and myself as an individual. There’s nothing I love more than sharing movies which have changed my mindset with others as well as watching and discussing recommendations from friends, something which I believe is at the heart of FilmSoc. I am, and will be, completely dedicated to the role of Secretary, as I’m a hard worker and organized, and will take it upon myself to ensure the committee and the society is persistently in order, creating the best possible experience for all members. Above all, I believe I am kind and approachable, and will always listen to other’s ideas and concerns in regards to anything in the running of the society. I aim to help make FilmSoc a positive, friendly and highly enjoyable community and environment and ensure that every person in the society is able to fully immerse themselves in the experience of sharing film with others.

heyy i am running for secretary for filmsoc, so here's every single thing about me as a person!
about me!
i'm amyra, i'm 20, and as corny as it sounds, I have been around movies for basically my entire life. i want to share the same love i have for them with others!
growing up, my dad loved romcoms, and my mom loved animated stuff, so needless to say, i watched a LOT of movies growing up. my parents made me watch basically all the lindsay lohan movies, all the pixar movies,so many corny romcoms that ive lost count,,,, i could go on for days about all the movies i watched growing up.
well, i finally grew up (kinda), and now my first order of business was choosing my own movies to watch, and the first one i remember watching by myself was 10 things i hate about you. love at first sight..
ever since then, movies have basically become my life - every hobby i had growing up had a movie for it, young adult book obsession? the hunger games movies, cooking obsession? god, there are so many good food movies (i'll screen one, i swear!), realized i was gay? woah love simon ! (corny, but i was like 14!) going through my rebel teen era? now i love big boy filmbro movies, i distinctly remember watching all the nominees for 2017, 2018, and 2019 oscars and pretending like i was the smartest person in the world. college happened i had my struggles mentally and woah i discovered the joy of watching camp (over the top silly) comedy movies- i really can attribute every phase of my life to a style of movies and honestly im grateful to everything ive watched growing up, it made me the person I am today.
TL;DR: movies have been there for me at all points of life, and I would LOVE to share that with others next year if I do end up winning:)

Primary goals as a committee member:
these include making sure there are more avenues to socialize within filmsoc as I've felt like the few minutes before and after a screening only let you do so much. I also want to try and collaborate with other societies even more because honestly shared interests lead to some amazing movies (im so pushing for camp lesbian screenings). On a screening level, I want to screen more gothic horror and more foreign language movies :)

On why I am qualified for a role on the committee: I do have committee experience (i served as the competitions officer for debate society this year!) , I also have experience working in a team and communicating with people as I do fundraising work for LSLCS at dial house (which is a mental health charity, it's very cool, please check it out!). also you might recognize me as the one unemployed person whos always texting in the whatsapp gc so i have evidence for my communication skills! i am also super hardworking and i can ensure that it will translate to a fun experience for filmsoc members next year :)
i dont know what else makes me good for this role tbh- i can count! i study sociology ?! i write poems !!?? i love being around people??! i love margaret qualley !
