The role of beginner racing captains is to recruit people to the sport who have never rowed before and help with their development as rowers, with the aim to create an inclusive and high performing squad racing at national events. The beginner squad is the largest squad at leeds. Captains should be a regular friendly face at the boat club and socials, as well as ensuring that rowers are completing their training and attending sessions. Captains are also responsible for the welfare of their squad, making sure that everyone feels supported and knows who they can turn to if they have any issues. Day-to-day jobs include setting boats for each week, coordinating outings, monitoring training by the squad and discussing athlete’s development with Dan. Captains will work with a variety of other roles, including coxes captain and volunteer coordinator.
