Hi my name is Anusha and I’d like to run for the Equality and Diversity officer for PALS.

Now, going into third year as a medic and woman of colour it has been very eye opening to speak to other students with similar and different cultural and religious backgrounds and how they view either how the course is taught or whom it caters most towards. It has been important for me to be vocal in specific modules such as ideals or ethics for instance, when I feel that certain viewpoints aren’t being appreciated enough. I feel my ability to speak up will be massively important for the role.
It is also important to consider that study sessions for all students created by only a handful can sometimes lack important content and it would be useful to make sure all students from different year are having their needs met. Through relaying this information back to the year leads sessions would be improved and diversified through hearing many perspectives.

Through this role I will be able to use my voice to bring about changes that benefit students specific needs in terms of advice and tutoring.

Hello! My name is Alina and I am a final year medical student. I would love to be the Equality and Diversity Officer for PALS in the 22/23 academic year as I am passionate about ensuring everyone is provided with equal opportunities, regardless of age, gender, race, religion, disability, sexual orientation or financial background. My role would be to ensure PALS events and opportunities are accessible to everyone, and work with the team to increase the participation of students from minority groups in our sessions. As someone who comes from an under-represented background myself, I have a good understanding of the potential inequalities that can arise in medical education, and I have many ideas on how we can overcome such issues and ensure equal opportunities. I have attended PALS sessions in my previous years and found them to be extremely useful. Now, I would love to make my own contribution to this society and help as many medical students as possible, especially reaching out to those from minority backgrounds. As someone who is friendly and approachable, I hope to be a point of contact for anyone wishing to raise issues about equality, diversity and inclusion, work with the team to resolve any issues and signpost members to the appropriate support services.
