I’m Ellie Goldstein, I am going into my Fourth year in September, and I am currently intercalating in MSc Human Anatomy with Education at the University of Sheffield. This last year I have been able to teach anatomy for over 4 hrs every week to students. Planning teaching sessions for in-person and online teaching has taught me a lot about different teaching methods. Upon completion of my masters, I am also awarded a Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy which allows me to teach within UK Universities. In the process of completing this, I have had time to reflect on my teaching experiences and have had lots of great feedback from supervisors.

One of the main benefits of this year was the ability to practice different teaching activities and styles. This has given me an appreciation for an active learning approach, and I hope to create teaching plans that engage students effectively. In addition to the development and delivery of teaching, I have also studied curriculum development and programme/module design. I now better understand how education runs at a large scale as well as looking at the implementation of teaching over the course of an academic year. At Sheffield, I have been actively involved in designing the upcoming academic years curriculum and aiding their curriculum mapping.

I hope to be able to bring the skills and knowledge I have learnt in curriculum design and teaching theories into the role of PALS 3 Co-Lead. Additionally, I have been on committees since my second year, so I appreciate the level of dedication needed for a society to be prosperous. Balancing committee dedications and studying for the master’s year has tested and grown my organisation skills. Alongside studying I love going to the gym, cycling and I have just started Aerial Hoop which is proving to be very difficult!

Hello I'm Sophie and I would love to be a PALS3 co-lead. I'm currently about to enter fourth year and am hardworking, creative and passionate about teaching. I delivered two teaching sessions for PALS last year and received some great feedback from the attendees. I was also the vice president of the Psyched committee so have plenty of experience working on and collaborating within a committee, hosting events and collecting feedback. I know I personally found year 3 to be a tricky adjustment and the amount of content was overwhelming, so I would love to be able to provide support and teaching sessions to help students that may feel they are in the same position I was in. I would love to create more OSCE resources, mock OSCEs and teaching sessions as I felt the university's teaching wasn't enough, as well as going over trickier core conditions, special senses and general exam tips. Inclusion and student support (particularly regarding mental health) are very important to me. I have a bit of an arty streak, so I love creating revision resources and posters! In my free time I love to bake and read.

My name is Amy and I am currently going into fourth year MBCHB. I have always loved teaching and gained lots of experience of this in the last year, completing a BSc in applied health (medical education). Outside of medicine, I love travelling, going to the gym and spending time with my little niece Hallie.

I co-led PALS3 sessions throughout last year, which I loved being part of and saw how much students value PALS. This included co-leading the first OSCE session of the year hence I was able to observe the scheme’s progression throughout the year. As part of my medical education BSc, I created a reflective portfolio following teaching experiences including PALS, meaning I have lots of ideas to bring to the committee!

I would like to run termly mock OSCEs as part of the scheme, giving as many of the students a chance to participate in a mock.
I understand constructive feedback students gave last year was the timing of the OSCE sessions clashing with travelling back from placement. If I was a PALS3 co-leader I would like the opportunity to explore room options for later sessions, liaising with the student union.

I am an organised person which I displayed being Vice President of MEDSOC charities in 2020-2021. This involved organising weekly fundraising events with over 60 people to raise money for charities such as MIND!

I think I'll be a great candidate for this position as I have vast experience in teaching with particular focus on Y3 content. For example i taught this year at the Manchester Royal Eye Hospital Duke Elder course on Basic sciences and Ophthalmic investigations. Therefore I would be of real help to teach special senses.

Also was involved in WAMS and led the Surgical day at the Leeds Medical Education Academy Summer School demonstrating my ability to organise and implement teaching.

Having been a teacher for PALs 2 this year, I have experience teaching and working within the team. I would love the opportunity this year to be more involved in the planning and organisation of the events. I am intercalating in medical education from September and I think this experience would work really nicely alongside doing that. I hope to be able to organise lots of events to help 3rd years with both their written exam and OSCEs and build up the preparation throughout the year.

Hi, I’m Hannah. I am a friendly, approachable individual who is passionate about providing inclusive medical education. Having completed my intercalated BSc in Applied Health (Medical Education) this past year, I have gained a huge amount of experience teaching students such as teaching my own tutorial group on I&P2, contributing to teaching on IDEALS1, co-designing and delivering teaching to the physician associate students and assisting with teaching clinical skills to name a few! I hope to apply my knowledge about learning and teaching to create teaching materials and sessions which are high quality, engaging and interactive for students. I have had fantastic feedback from both students and educators who have observed my teaching. I recognise the value of collecting student feedback to improve and develop future teaching sessions and I would prioritise this as PALS3 co-lead by creating Google Forms and QR codes to collect feedback. I found peer teaching extremely helpful when preparing for third year exams and I think it is important to develop a regular, consistent programme of teaching tailored to the needs of third-year students. I am excited to work with the other co-leads as part of a team; I acted as Social Media and Marketing Rep for Leeds Rheumatology and Musculoskeletal Medicine Society this year and communicated effectively with the other committee members as part of my role.

I joined PALS last year as a PALS2 co-lead and I really enjoyed my role. With the help of other 3rd year students, we ran many successful events for the 2nd years, covering most modules. With my experience of PALS from last year, I know I have so much to offer as a PALS3 co-lead. I am passionate about everyone having equal opportunities and want as many people to pass exams as possible, I believe that by putting on more events for 3rd years we can make this a reality. Collaboration between medical students is the key to success and I want to be part of this again next year. I hope to help plan events covering both the written and OSCE exams. I will go above and beyond in this role to make sure we can help as many students to succeed.
