Hi I'm Abhijeet a business school student. I have worked as an activity team leader in my university handling various activities related to technical and cultural societies of my college. Also, I’m an experienced professional with a 3 years industrial experience at different positions.

I’m here to increase the fun of activities and efficiency of opportunities for you all. As a student of business school, I want to organize and manage the activities of the clubs and societies that can create best of the memories for our diverse community.

My main focuses will be;

1. Fun activities that bring our community together.
2. Organized communication that listens to student voice.
3. Open approach that generates a feeling of inclusion.
4. Better facilities for the participants of clubs and societies.
5. Dependable healthcare that includes first-aid and mental health awareness.
6. Aim to build partnerships with local businesses, organizations, and charities to provide students with a range of volunteering and work experience opportunities.

I’ve loved being your Activities & Opportunities Officer this year and I’ve still got more to give! This role has truly become my passion and I want to continue to represent YOU, the students of Leeds! Here’s what I promise to do if I am re-elected for 2023/24…

Representation and Support

- Increased support for Activities grant and Gryphon fund applications.
- Transparency and student representation in decision making at every level.
- Scrap the £5 membership levy- remove this burden from students and fund it through alternative means!

The Value of Clubs & Societies
- Lobby the university to recognise the value of extracurricular activity and embed this across the whole curriculum.
- Increase funding for clubs and societies and lead a cost of sport campaign at a regional level.

Sense of Belonging and Community
-Improved society collaboration and networking opportunities.
-Establish welfare networks and procedures to support committees.
-Safer and inclusive societies! First aid, anti-spiking, sexual harassment & misconduct and EDI training.

This year, I’ve been constantly listening to and learning from students to shape my work and policies to ensure I deliver the best possible results. My experience as Activities & Opportunities Officer this year has enabled me to set realistic and achievable goals for if I am re-elected so I know I will be able to uphold my promises.

A bit more about me…

I graduated from Biological Sciences in July 2022 and have been involved in LUU throughout my whole time as a student. From being a Terrace regular in my first year to Club Captain of Women’s Football and Activities Exec Sports Rep in my final year, it’s fair to say I’ve been pretty involved! LUU offers an incredible depth of activities, and it has been a pleasure to be involved across the board this year, from cultural events to performance and the arts it’s been a learning curve but one that I’m really proud of.

I wanted to run for this position because I wanted to make a difference for this school to let we have more chances to enjoy arts. I have been enrolled in a professional art academy for systematic study since I was 12 years old. I studied in the U S top art school Interlochen and won 14 state-level and 3 national awards in high school and participated in many local design projects. Besides, I went to the CAFA【Central Academy of Fine Arts】, the top art institute in China, for further study for two years, and worked part-time as a cover designer for some large secretaries. When I came to UK, I feel this is a amazing place which is full of art atmosphere.

Leeds has a lot of excellent clubs, I hope to promote the clubs better through my art skills. I think the clubs can be used as the characteristics of the school to focus on the publicity, such as showing props for club activities and sharing some details of activities, which can promote the virtuous circle of the clubs. Besides, I have a lot of experience designing logos and posters, so I think I can be a good support. And I also want to promote sharing meetings among students, so that students can learn from each other and improve their professional skills.

What’s more, the students who study art In Leeds need more opportunities to take part in more exhibitions and competitions, I realize that there are very few student exhibitions here, and the studio used by the whole department cannot even hold chairs. The limitation of the size of the studio makes it difficult for everyone to display their talents, so at least give me a chance to change the current situation. I learned Curate an exhibition in high school with top designers and I believe if I got a chance, I would make a strong different form now, I will let all the people who are interested with art join to more activities, and I will let students here know how great they are to create art. So, if I am elected, I will apply for the use of LUU's event area to promote the works and performances of the art Department, and you will no longer have to worry that your space is too small.

Finally, I also learned that some societies and art students need funds and have no place to properly store their works, so I will add an interactive section in the exhibition -- if you sign up for this activity, you can let interested people draw the purchase qualification of your works! And we will design some memorial perimeter, so that everyone can enjoy more.
