Hi, my name is Amy, and I am running for the 2026/27 Cutting Edge Vice President Secretary.

Over the past year on committee, I have had the opportunity to immerse myself in everything Cutting Edge offers, from the annual conference and suturing series to online teaching and inspiring talks such as the recent transplant event. These experiences have built my passion for surgery and motivated me to give more to a society that has played an important role in my journey.

As Secretary, I would be committed to the future of Cutting Edge, motivated to see future surgeons excited about their career prospects. Over summer, I would prepare for our most prestigious event, the annual Cutting Edge Conference. Having attended multiple times, I’ve really enjoyed seeing its growth and continued support nationwide. After attending the ASiT conference, I’ve come back with fresh ideas to build on this - including national, maybe even worldwide streaming opportunities, promoting our event through student-led platforms like “MedConf Global”- an online map providing dates, details and contacts for conferences across the globe. I would also love to introduce talks from organisations such as CRAMSURG, which have helped me develop valuable research skills for a competitive surgical portfolio.

While Cutting Edge has dedicated committee roles, this year has shown me that Cutting Edge is a team. I’m always happy to support wherever needed, whether that’s booking rooms, coordinating with surgeons, or helping run events. I am a team player and always willing to help. One of my highlights was the suturing series, where I enjoyed speaking with younger students and sharing my experiences. I realised how important guidance and reassurance can be in what can often feel like a competitive and overwhelming field.

I am committed, passionate about a future in surgery, and confident in my ability to work effectively within a team. As Secretary, I would bring organisation, enthusiasm, and dedication- helping to ensure Cutting Edge continues to inspire and support the next generation of surgeons.
