Hi I'm Marcus and I'd love to join the cutting-edge committee as a clinical year representative. I have loved being a part of the society as it has given many so many opportunities through the mentorship scheme and suturing workshops, which developed my surgical skills and specialty knowledge. I hope that by acting as a clinical year representative, I can help to facilitate such opportunities to all of my peers!

My experience in OSCE preparation includes attending OSCE practice sessions from PALS, volunteering as a patient for the LAMMPS mock OSCE and participating in the OSCE circuit working with basic sign language interpreters and deaf volunteers held by the BSL society. These experiences have allowed me to familiarize myself with OSCEs and I am confident that I will be very helpful with organizing and delivering preparation and teaching sessions.

This year I have also been part of the committee of the Leeds Plastics, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Society as well as the men's basketball society as charity officer and men's 3s captain respectively. This has allowed me to be familiar with how to work on a committee and has developed my teamwork skills. I promise that I will be a reliable and proactive teammate!

Last but not least I have attended multiple surgical conferences including the BAPRAS one for undergraduates, as well as the British Conference of Undergraduate Research and INUGSC as a presenter, so I can use those experiences to help run the Cutting-Edge conferences smoothly and provide fresh ideas.

As demonstrated by my commitment to this society I am deeply passionate about surgery. Being able to scrub into theatres in my free time has only reinforced this. Having seen the real world uses of the different skills I have learnt from Cutting Edge has allowed me to see just how important this role can be. Hello my name is Melisa and I am excited to put myself forward as 3rd Year Clinical Representative for Cutting Edge.

Over the past two years, I have developed a genuine passion for surgery and a strong commitment to this society. I have attended multiple Cutting Edge events such as the 2025 Cutting Edge Conference, and different suturing sessions. I was struck by the exceptional quality of the opportunities one which I particularly enjoyed was the laparoscopic session held in St James. These experiences have reinforced both my enthusiasm for the specialty and my appreciation for what this society offers its members.

My surgical exposure extends well beyond the curriculum. Alongside placements in thoracic and colorectal surgery, I have independently organised opportunities in liver transplant and maxillofacial surgery reflecting my drive to understand the breadth and diversity that a surgical career can offer. I have also attended external conferences such as a BAPRAS Lower Limb Trauma SIAG day event recently, and I am committed to continuing to engage with the wider surgical community.

Organisation and teamwork are qualities I bring to everything I do. At university, I consistently meet deadlines and take an active role in group projects, acting as a liaison to keep teams on track and drive high-quality outcomes. This was recognised when my group was awarded the Max Hamilton Prize for a group presentation on long-term health conditions.

As Clinical year Representative, I am eager to contribute to delivering impactful events from OSCE preparation and skills sessions to elective evenings and intercalation information events. I am a reliable team player who is committed to ensuring our events run smoothly, and I would love the opportunity to work closely with the other clinical year reps to make a real difference to the clinical year experience and be a part of such a friendly committee.

I would be honoured to represent my year group and give back to a society that has given me so much.
