Fellas,

This is exciting.

Over the past two years my fondness for you lads and love for the club has grown continuously. The club has given me so much (memories, friendships, severe financial distress), and next year is the year in which I plan to give back. The role of treasurer is up there with the most significant determinants of not only UoLMCC’s 2024/25 livelihood, but also the club’s well-being in years to come. Despite the light-hearted tone of this candidate statement, please do not underestimate the unequivocal (big word) importance that I place upon this role.

This bit is really exciting.

Currently we boast considerable financial robustness, all thanks to the financial acumen and dedication of Kingy and his predecessors. Assuming we do not receive an indictment over the coming weeks, and that Leighton does not accumulate considerable fines as Captain of the 3’s, this provides me with an excellent opportunity to not only maintain the club’s excellent financial health, but also improve the quality of the club (can greatness be improved, we will see) through reinvesting any excess funding. Can we make socials more financially accessible? Can we generate additional revenue through our club events? Is income being funnelled into the most effective cash streams (e.g. cookie dough shot fund)? These are the questions we need to be asking, and to keep you all excited, I will elaborate my proposals in more detail on the 22nd.

This bit is not as exciting, but read it.

But why me you ask. Whilst having my eyes closed in Mischief is a Miles Addy trademark, those of you who know me in an academic sense understand that I can count. I can count well. I’m currently studying Economics and Finance, and over the summer I’ll be interning at an Investment Bank in London (non-nepotism!). Whilst the bank may not facilitate a UoLMCC IPO, it will however provide me with invaluable experience in financial modelling and management, and more importantly raise my Excel XP levels to Prestige Master. Again all jokes aside, my financial understanding, organisational prowess and time management skills (was never last at a social) are a few of the many qualities which make me an excellent fit for this role.

It’s Poku Banks Baby

Gentlemen – I hope this finds you well.

I can genuinely say that running for the committee last year was one of the best decisions I have ever made; I have never felt so connected to this fantastic club, and both the friendships and experiences I have gained in doing so will stay with me for a long time. It is for this reason that I am looking to be next year’s treasurer.

I believe I have been able to learn a huge amount of what is required in this role through my close working relationship with Kingy this year. I pride myself on my organisation, and as an engineer am extremely comfortable working with numbers. During my placement year I gained experience in financial forecasting through managing expenditure across various medical and consumer projects.

Unless something goes significantly awry over the Easter break, the club will be in a very strong position financially. This is something, however, I will not take for granted – many of us will be acutely aware of the financial struggles of some other major societies in LUU. As a taster for my plans, I would like to investigate the financial viability of leveraging the club’s contacts to livestream our home 1st XI BUCS games – whether that be through FrogBox, UCCE equipment or other means – and assess the cost implications of fielding a 4th XI in 2024/25 BUCS (I am tracking the availability side of this puzzle during the upcoming season).

I am equally conscious of the responsibility this role holds as a part of the wider executive committee; as someone who has been around the club for four years and attended many of its offerings, both social and sporting, I feel I am very well equipped to support the CC and Secretary in guiding the club to be the best it can be.
