Hi everyone,
I'm Shreya Shambhavi, and I'm excited to be standing for the role of LGBTQ+ Equality and Diversity Officer at the University of Leeds.

Back home in India, I worked actively with the Women’s Development Cell during my higher education. This role took me to rural areas where I engaged directly with communities, listened to their stories, and worked on initiatives to raise awareness and support around gender and social issues. It gave me a deep understanding of how systemic inequalities impact lives—and how important representation and advocacy truly are.

Since moving to the UK, I’ve experienced a more open and inclusive society, but I also recognize that the work for true equality is far from over. At Leeds, I still see gaps in representation, spaces that could be more welcoming, and voices that need to be heard louder.

If elected, I want to help bridge those gaps. I’ll work to amplify LGBTQ+ voices, build stronger support systems, and create inclusive events and campaigns that celebrate our diversity. I also want to foster collaboration between different student communities—because intersectionality matters, and everyone deserves to feel safe, seen, and supported.

This isn’t just about representation—it’s about creating real change. I bring with me passion, experience, and a strong belief in equality. Together, let’s make our university a more inclusive place for all.
