Hi everyone, I am Sara and I am running to be one of  your  MSRC representative this year.

During sixth form, getting my additional requirements put in place felt like an absolute gamble. It was not easy knowing how to communicate my needs or who to approach for the support and guidance I required. However, once I began advocating for myself and communicating my needs, I realised how much of a difference having your concerns heard and acted upon can make. What initially felt like a difficult and uncertain process became much easier once I had the right support in place.
This experience made me realise that being a good advocate is essential when listening to others’ concerns, especially when those concerns cannot be raised directly by the person themselves. Sometimes, the issue may not be something major that you immediately think needs to be raised. It could be an addition to a module, an area that could be improved, or a small change that could make a significant difference to students’ experiences. However, to bring these things forward, you need someone who is willing to represent your voice.
That is exactly what I hope to do as MRSC. I want to be someone my peers can approach with their concerns, ideas and experiences, and someone who can communicate these effectively with the medical school. I want to act as a bridge between students and the medical school, helping ensure that the right support is in place for everyone to succeed and progress.

The role comes with great responsibility and requires skillset such as time management, listening skills, and communication that I have acquired during sixth form where I founded MedSoc and was representative in the Student council.

My main objective is that I want to use this role to make sure that students feel heard. My experiences have shown me how much of a difference having someone to advocate for you can make, and I want to provide that support for others. Whether it is raising a concern, suggesting an improvement or simply making sure that a student’s voice reaches the right person, I want to be someone my peers can rely on.

I want to help make our journey through medicine a little smoother, more supported and more inclusive, and I would be proud to represent you as your MRSC.

I am tremendously excited, and I must admit, a little nervous for the year ahead! But despite that, I can promise to provide an ear to listen to any feedback and relay information to the Committee and relevant staff. Im looking forward to the experiences this year has to offer!

As a medical student, I believe that a positive student experience plays an important role in supporting academic performance and overall success. Medical School isn’t just about studying to become the best doctor you can be, but about growing to become the best versions of ourselves collectively. Medical school is undoubtedly demanding. From Year 0 to Year 5, there will be long days, challenging placements, endless revision and occasionally the questioning of why we ever thought medicine was a good idea. But throughout this having an approachable and available student representative is important in making sure students’ experiences, concerns, and ideas are heard and represented within the medical school. I want to be someone you as the gateway cohort can feel comfortable coming to whenever you want and create an environment where you’re confidently able to raise your concerns and just talk about anything really. Not only do I want to address the problems and provide the best possible outcomes but want to make sure that your voices are genuinely being heard and not just collected as feedback. I’m willing to listen to different perspectives and work collaboratively with you, other reps and the module leads to find the best solutions. Ultimately, I see this role as an opportunity to contribute positively to the medical school community and would be committed to representing you fairly, ensuring that you all get the support you need to maximise your experience at Leeds Medical School.

Hello! My name is Vrati Desai, and I am running to be your MSRC representative for the year.

As a national-level public speaker, I feel confident communicating ideas, concerns and feedback between our cohort and the MSRC. I understand first-hand that, for many of us who may be the first in our families to pursue medicine, navigating something this new can feel extremely daunting. I would love to be a source of support throughout this - aiding you to better understand and make the most of this journey.

What sets me apart is that I am deeply reflective. I naturally take time to consider what went well, what could have been better, and how we can move forward. I believe this would be invaluable in this role: not only bringing my own reflections to the MSRC to help create meaningful change, but also listening to yours and ensuring they are understood and communicated effectively.

I firmly believe that, as the future of medicine, we have a responsibility to learn, discover and reflect - not only for the benefit of our future patients, but also for the students who will follow in our footsteps. I see this role as an opportunity to contribute to that process and help make our experience better for both our cohort and those who come after us.

Hi, my name is Asma and I am running to be one of your Gateway Reps this year.

Previously, I've been a Head Girl and been in many a student councils to help improve the school experience advocating for me and my peers alike . I like to think of myself as quite helpful and supportive and I really want the chance to have a lasting impact on not only my cohort but also on the following cohorts. This is to allow the Gateway Course to not only be accessible to everyone but also useful , looking forward to the transition to Year 1 of the MBCHB course .

Ultimately I just want to be a kind, approachable face in gateway who is open to any questions or concerns so feel free to chat to me about it all.
