The cinema is a communal space and as secretary I would love to emphasise this feeling in the society. My proposals include engaging with the community in ways such as creating a discord server where we could announce events and discuss films with each other, optional activities such as quizzes and short writing contests on topics such as the most outlandish film theory you have (winner getting a prize of course), a film soc letterboxd for archiving past viewings and even showcasing short films made by the community themselves after film screenings.

My name is Paul and I'm in my first year studying Mathematics and Philosophy. Before uni, I did a short course for the BFI taking the role of a producer on a short film, working in a team and being organised in a film setting. Doing this odd combination of a degree has allowed me to be both articulate and attentive, especially with time. Outside uni, you can catch me crocheting, listening to Frank Ocean and watching/researching/reading about films. Hear me out. Despicable Me and Top Gun: Maverick are arguably the same story. The main character is a disappointment to his peers in his organisation. Both films have the same themes of getting old as the world/industry changes around them and younger talents rise up. The younger supporting characters are initially opposed to the main character, but eventually learn to love and respect him as they get to know him better. At some point in the film, they fly a rocket. Hans Zimmer and a popular artist mostly known for singing (Pharrell Williams/Lady Gaga) are involved in creating the soundtrack.

I believe I would make a good secretary as part of the AHC Student Advisory board I have experience in minuting meetings whilst providing insight into the conversation. I am very organized and I will be able to effectively complete the various admin tasks that come with the position in a timely manner. My role as a secretary would go beyond mere administrative tasks; as someone who’s come from Italy to England to explore the multi cultural facets of cinema I would aim to enhance the overall experience of the film society, making it more organized, inclusive, and fun for every member.

Hi! I’m Eva, and I’m in first year studying English and History. I would love to be Filmsoc secretary! These are my proposals:
- As someone interested in film archiving, I see the lending library as such a valuable asset, and wish to encourage access by making it easier to borrow films through an online system - this could also be used in collaboration with other universities to create a vast database of films that members would be able to borrow from
- I would curate collections in the library - if you’re researching something specific, or liked a film and want to watch something similar, it would be much easier to find!
- To extend communication beyond Instagram, I would create a WhatsApp community and also an opt-in mailing list for updates
- ⁠I would introduce subtitled and audio-described screenings for members who are hard of hearing or visually impaired, and incorporate feedback on how to make filmsoc more accessible

I have experience in curation and digital organisation, and of course love films and have many suggestions!

Hey FilmSoc! My name is Will and I’m a first year studying Social and Political Sciences. You may have seen me at some of the screenings this year! :)

I am a film lover and Letterboxd warrior so I would love to be considered as your secretary at FilmSoc for 2024-25!

Here are some of my ideas:
- Weekly newsletter/mailing list to keep members up to date on all things FilmSoc (potentially working alongside the social sec). This would include details on the films we watched that week, reviews from members on films, average ratings across the society, next week’s screenings and much more!
- Further promotion of the lending library to encourage greater use of this incredible resource! Members would be able to request films via email to collect at our next screening or event!
- Track films that members borrow from the library to allow the committee can recommend similar films, enhancing the experience for all members.
- Monthly Instagram story/Google form to give members a space to help us improve this society together!
- Opt-in members list with social media handles (including Letterboxd) to get to know your fellow members and find others with a similar taste in film!

Finally, I’ve watched The Devil Wears Prada an unholy number of times so of course I know how to succeed as a secretary. That’s all!
