Hi,

I'm Thomas and I'm currently a first year English and Music student. I am looking forward to my second year in Leeds and hope that it can be made better by becoming the Secretary of album review. I believe I would fit this role as I am a familiar face within the society and I am keen to enrich the uni experience of current members and new freshers, as this years committee did for me.

This society has given me many great memories over the last year and I believe that it is one of the best in Leeds which is why I would like to work with the new committee to help it grow even further.

What I would do to help our society grow:

I would try to work with more local venues to secure bigger and better socials and to help give members more musical opportunities. This could involve putting on two gigs. One at the end of semester one and the traditional end of year gig.

I would also like to make the bi-weekly socials where we don't review albums a consistent fixture to help members socialise outside of just 'albums'. I would build on what this years committee has done and try to secure more discounted gig and club tickets and try to introduce more themed nights.

I’m Ruby and I’m currently in my second year studying chemistry but don’t let that fool you, I absolutely love music more than anything. I have been part of Album Review for two years now and it genuinely is the best society there is on offer. I would love to be part of the momentum to keep the society as amazing as it is.
I am a well-known member of the society; I’ve been at every album review and social. I also helped organise the final social which was a brilliant way to end this year. I had so much fun helping with it and would love to do it full-time as secretary.
I believe that I would be suitable for this role because I am inclusive and open. I would love to hear everyone’s ideas and incorporate these so everyone feels heard. This would include keeping the bi-weekly socials in between album reviews so everyone has the chance to be together in a range of different settings that caters to everyone. Because not everyone wants to shout in each other’s ears whilst loud music plays! I want to keep these regular opportunities for everyone to be able to make friends and try new things. I want to be a good person to reach for welfare support so that everyone is safe and included in this special society.
I really want to push more for gigs this coming year as we all love music and the best way to enjoy it is live surrounded by people who love it as much as you do. I am huge on supporting the grassroots scene including the bands within our society. I want to organise more gigs to give bands new opportunities to develop and gain new audiences as well give you guys fun nights out at some of the incredible venues Leeds has to offer.
I have genuinely loved every minute of my time in Album Review. I have felt so welcomed and free to be myself when it comes to music because where I’m from the music scene is pretty non-existent. I have met great pals and can’t wait to meet more as well; I love hearing everyone talking about their favourite artists and bands. As secretary, I will ensure everyone gets to be part of an amazing society with so many fun socials and events.
