Hi, my name is Bea, I’m a second- year music student and I’d love to be your Fundraising and Sponsorship Officer!!

I love being part of LUUMS. I had the pleasure of being one of your Publicity Officers this year which I absolutely loved. Having experience being on the Exec committee before has allowed me to gain a great understanding of all the behind the scenes organisation of how LUUMS is run. As Publicity Officer, I developed so many valuable skills such as time management, organisation and communication. I’m really keen to continue to put these skills to practice and to keep sharing my ideas about how to keep LUUMS a thriving, fun and accessible society. As part of Exec, I have developed a new range of publicity material which has contributed to incredible sales for our termly concert series and socials, increasing reach and impact of resources particularly to support mental health and wellbeing.

As a regular volunteer for various charities such as Oxfam, I am very passionate about and understand the importance of charities and fundraising. I’ve had experience in putting on and organising charity concerts, for example I have organised a charity concert ‘Choose Love’ which raised over £700. It then became an annual concert series at my local secondary school because of its success.

As Fundraising and Sponsorship Officer, I would aim to continue and strengthen LUUMS’ relationship with different charities and increase fundraising for both our chosen charities and our own ensembles. I would continue to work closely with Exec to explore new and exciting fundraising options such as a Charity Concert Night and expanding our Friends of LUUMS scheme. I would also aim to develop a fundraising plan to ensure that tour can be cheaper and more accessible and supportive for everyone!

Hi everyone! I am Joe Edwards (he/they), I’m a third year Music Psychology student and I would love to be your Sponsorship and Fundraising Officer next year. Through managing Chorus this year, I have witnessed first-hand how impactful fundraising and sponsorships can be to an ensemble and the wider society and some of my favourite socials this year have been fundraisers (looking at you, LUUMS Ball)! I am reliable, determined and passionate about this role, so here are some ideas for implementation if I were elected:

I have loved the fundraising events that LUUMS have put on - Sinfonia have put on two successful socials and the Christmas fundraiser was also such an entertaining night. Using my experience organising concerts, quiz nights and market stalls to fundraise my expedition to Ghana, I would be eager to push for more internal fundraising events – not only do they mean that profits can be put into acquiring music and subsidising tours but also it would mean more promotion of our society for potential sponsors.

One of the most important parts of being the Sponsorship and Fundraising Officer is staying in contact with the Friends and Patrons of LUUMS and keeping them updated through the newsletter on what the ensembles have been working on. I am keen to provide more transparency to both current and potential patrons on visualising what their contribution can provide for a specific ensemble. This clarity could vastly increase the number of patrons who were previously unsure on how their donations would be spent. In addition, I would explore larger corporate sponsorships, including matching profits from fundraising and discussing charity resolutions. This role would require a great deal of communication – keeping in touch with sponsors, wider exec, and the Union Cash Office. I have had lots of experience in this from managing Chorus this year, as well as collaborating with peers on multiple research projects throughout my degree.

LUUMS has absolutely been the highlight of my three years in Leeds, and I would love to get the opportunity to develop and grow the society more, so I hope you will vote for me to be your Sponsorship and Fundraising Officer!
