Hi, I’m Lily! I am a third year Chemistry and Maths student, and I would love to become your LUUMS Treasurer for 2024/25. LUUMS has been the highlight of my uni experience, so this would be the perfect opportunity for me to stay involved and help out. I currently play in two brass bands, one LUUMS and one not, where I play the cornet. When I’m not at band, I like to listen to musical theatre and Taylor Swift with my sister.

For the past year (2023/24), I have been lucky enough to be the LUUMS Treasurer. The experience it has given me has been invaluable and I have enjoyed every minute. I have always been focused on helping the ensembles and exec in any way I can, I hope that everyone has found me to be approachable and easy to ask for help. I am a bit of an organisation lover, so my spreadsheet has been stunning, and I am very proud of that 3.

This year I implemented alternative payment schedules for members who may struggle to pay for large events in one go (e.g., ball and tours), this is something I want to strengthen so that no member is deterred from an event by money. I would love to continue to use and improve on what I have learned this year as Treasurer so that LUUMS can continue to provide maximal musical and social opportunities, whilst also succeeding financially.

In September, I will be starting a master’s course in Transport Planning and Engineering. My degree and education have given me strong maths skills; I would love to continue to use the maths skills I have strengthened in my undergraduate degree in the role of treasurer. I am confident that my skills and experience make me the best candidate for the role of treasurer.

Being one of the managers of Brass Band and organising our trip to UniBrass in Warwick during my second year has given me valuable experience in budgeting and organising, both of which I can apply to the treasurer role to manage funds. I am comfortable handling and managing money, can budget well, make tough decisions when necessary and communicate effectively. I want to ensure that our society’s finances are transparent, accessible, and managed effectively.

Ultimately, I want to ensure that every LUUMS ensemble has the funds and support to do the things they want to do.
