Who are we?
The Scribe is a creative community dedicated to amplifying student voices.
What do we do?
We create zines filled with your poetry, short fiction, art and photography. We produce three issues a year. These are released in December, March and June. Our zines create the space for student artists and writers to develop and display their work in print. Every issue is launched with a Zine Launch Party open mic night.
Our Zine Launch Parties are just one of a number of events we host. This year, our regular Open-Mics at The Packhorse will be back up and running. These are fantastic opportunities to meet like-minded people and to exhibit your work.
The Scribe also hosts competitions and works in collaboration with other societies, reviewing student theatre, comedy, music, film, fashion and visual art. We also connect with Leeds’ local artistic community, featuring interviews with artists and creatives outside of the university.
This year, The Scribe is thrilled to introduce a new event: The Scrub. An informal cross between a workshop and an open-mic, The Scrub welcomes creatives of any kind and any ability. Embracing chaos and imperfection, our The Scrub events aim to promote mixed-media collaboration and creating without shame, so each groups’ project is begun, prepared and exhibited on the night.
