Let's Talk About...Welfare Cuts with MP Alex Sobel!
Alex Sobel is coming to LUU to listen to student testimonies about how PIP supports them and what the proposed welfare cuts could mean for their future.
This event is for students who would be impacted or know people who would be impacted by Labour's proposed PIP cuts.
The LUU Student Disabled Network leading the 'Students Against Disability Cuts (SADC)' Campaign and the Student Exec have organised this event to give students the opportunity to share their experiences and discuss concerns about Labour's proposed Personal Independence Payment (PIP) Cuts with MP Alex Sobel.
Alex Sobel wants to listen to what students feel about the welfare cut proposals to get a better understanding of what impact this would have to be able to lobby the Government for change based on testimonies.
This event can be made hybrid - if you are coming in person then please go to the LUU Help desk where an LUU Staff member will meet you. If you want to join online or submit a statement or testimony then please click here.
What is the 'Students Against Disability Cuts' Campaign?
This is a student-led campaign led by our disabled reps in the LSC to challenge the proposed PIP cuts, raise awareness of how these cuts disproportionately harm disabled students, and push for policies that protect disability support. If you want to keep updated on this campaign you can contact the Disabled Student Reps, or email LUU's Democracy & Campaigns Team: LUU.PET@leeds.ac.uk.
