Jellyfish Lantern Creative Workshop
Create ‘jellyfish lanterns’ out of plastic bottles and recycled materials at a drop-in workshop with the Cultural Institute and artist collective Immortal Bloom. The lanterns you make will be fitted with programmable lights and hung from trees on the University of Leeds campus for Light Night (24th and 25th Oct). The collaborative art installation will mimic a bloom of jellyfish, responding to this year’s theme ‘Inspired by Nature’.
The workshop is inspired by the ‘immortal’ jellyfish whose lifecycle is continuously circular. Artists Rachel and Anzir create art which battles the widespread use of plastics whilst provoking discussions around marine degradation, endangered species and climate change. As well as helping create a participatory artwork, you can learn how closed loop systems work, and how each element of the jellyfish lanterns can be taken apart, recycled and reused.
This workshop is open to all, free to attend and all materials provided, although you can bring your own (clean) plastic bottles.
