Join Res Life and GOGA for our newest walking trip to explore Helmsley, a charming market town in the North York Moors National Park, and the surrounding countryside. Known for its historic castle ruins, peaceful countryside and independent shops and cafes, Helmsley offers a perfect GOGA experience for nature lovers looking to discover somewhere new.

We will meet at the Parkinson Steps at 08:50 returning at approximately 17:30. We will travel via coach. This is included in the ticket cost (£5).

What you need to bring:

• Packed lunch and a drink
• Good outdoor walking shoes or boots and a waterproof jacket. GOGA offer a limited amount of kit hire including walking boots and waterproof jackets - they will send a request form closer to the date of the walk
• Money to purchase items in shops in the town at the end

• Spare footwear to change into after the walk and a bag for your muddy boots or shoes

Information about the walk:

The walking routes will start in Helmsley at the beginning of the Cleveland Way and will follow this route towards the historic ruins of Rievaulx Abbey, a 12th century monastery - taking in the beautiful woodlands, valleys and trails in the area.

We will pause en-route to rest and to appreciate the views and will finish the trip off with some free time in Helmsley, so we suggest bringing some spending money for snacks, hot drinks or souvenirs before departing back for Leeds.

You will receive an email from GetOutGetActive@leeds.ac.uk on the week on the trip, this will include further information such as meeting time, activator contact details, route information, the kit hire form and the health check form - which you must complete by 4pm on the day before your trip.

You must be at least 17 years of age to attend this trip.

When booking a place for this event, the named participant is making a commitment to attend the event and to travel to and from the destination on the organised coach provided.

The event organiser will be as accommodating as possible if the participant cannot attend and will deal with cases on an individual basis up to one week before the event. We advise that in the event of the named candidate not being able to attend that they find a replacement to take their position and notify the event organiser at least one week before the date of the event. No changes can be made within one week of the event.

The coach used and the walking route are not wheelchair accessible. The walk is accessible to students who are able to walk 6km including some uphill throughout the route.
