I’m a law student currently on a placement at Residence Life at UoL

Having worked in student welfare and programming this past year, I have learned the importance of wellbeing and how much it contributes to student overall success. This past year I got certified at Mental Health First Aider (MHFA), which helped me to gain skills such as active listening, empathy, and the ability to listen without judgment. I believe this qualification and experience working in student welfare will help me assist our society members with different wellbeing questions they might have in a calm and professional manner.

Working for Residence Life I have organized a wellbeing campaign which involved informing students about a variety of wellbeing services available within our University and in Leeds. During the campaign I worked with the following services: Disability services, Report & Support, Counseling & Wellbeing, and Help & Support. This helped me gain a good grasp of what each service does and when to signpost to each of them is best. This will allow me to sign post members of the society correctly and if needed assist with any admin that comes with using any of the wellbeing services.

As a Welfare Officer for SSAFE I will always be supportive and approachable, by making an effort to make an active part in as many events as possible. I will aim to create a safe and welcoming environment for everyone. By combining my knowledge of the Universities support services and my experiences as an international student.
