On reflection, when I was at school there was a lack of support or discussion about mental health until I got older. I believe this shouldn’t be the case and want to encourage an active change. Mental health can impact anyone at any age and at any point in their life. Therefore ways to gain support must be implemented from an early age in order to educate students that support is there and you aren’t alone. Equally discussing mental health as a concept encourages those who are facing hardship to have the courage to speak up and share how they’re feeling with others. At any age mental health as a concept can be daunting and an overwhelming feeling like there’s nobody to turn to. It would be an honour to be the school liaison officer as i would have the ability to implement the process of educating young people. I believe the earlier the better, children are the most impressionable age groups and therefore if we as a committee can act as a body to highlight children of mechanisms support systems and coping strategies then that is a skill set that they have learned for life.
