Hello Badminton Society Members,

I'm Momoko, currently in my penultimate year studying Business Management and Human Resources. It's been an incredible year with the Badminton Society, and I've thoroughly enjoyed connecting with fellow enthusiasts of the sport.

This year, I've also served as a school representative within the business school. This role has immersed me in a feedback-oriented environment where I actively collect and report feedback, collaborating with fellow reps to brainstorm solutions. This experience will be invaluable in ensuring that all voices within our society are heard, while working closely with our committee members.

As a natural leader, I believe strongly in the power of team spirit. For the team, For our team, I plan to work closely with our coaches to tailor training sessions that accommodate players at different skill levels and are conducted in a constructive manner. I will also advocate on creating more mini-tournaments opportunities to make sure all players get enough game time and feel valued within the team. Not only that, I will organise exciting events such as All England Championships and badminton holiday, to further unite the team off court.

On the social side, I aim to create opportunities such as all inclusive tournament that can cater both team and recreational players alongside other regular social events, to unite the society as a whole. I will review the current operation of recreational sessions to make sure all players get court times and more opportunities to engage with different people within the society, and welcome any new joiners who are interested in the sport. Whenever possible, I also hope to create a sports fun day with other societies to team up and compete in different sports.

I might not be the strongest player on court, but I am confident to be the best candidate leading the whole society together off court. I am fully committed into creating an inclusive environment and elevate the badminton society to new heights with my passion and experience. No matter you are in the team or a recreational player, your voices will always be heard.

Hello everyone,
I'm Hoi Shun Tao! Let me introduce myself and then explain why I am running to be your LUU badminton president next year:

I am a Business Management student who grew up in Hong Kong, and I'm passionate about badminton. I have plenty of badminton experience, having played for most of my life. I mainly play singles but also like to play levels and mixed doubles.

The reason I want to run for president is that I want to continue the good work of the committee this year but make some necessary changes, which you can read about below.

Recreational Badminton (Rec)

Rec badminton is at the core of our society and where most members play. I want to keep our twice-weekly rec sessions and their social environment. Things that I want to ensure next year at Rec are:

* That there are enough rackets and shuttles at every session
* That the shuttles are of a good standard
* That there is speedy communication between the club rep and rec
* That we get rid of those annoying bots in the group chat!
* Lots of fun tournaments, including a Christmas one and bringing back our famous Valentine's tournament.

Lots of Rec players just enjoy the social side of the game, but I know a lot of rec players are keen to improve, so if that's you, read on for my plans for the performance side of the society.

Performance Badminton

I want to create a clear badminton pathway to foster improvement at the university, starting with Rec and leading to team training. This will create a chance for us to develop new players and nurture the talent we already have at the university.

Development Squad:
For those eager to elevate their game, the Development Squad offers a focused platform for skill enhancement and progression. Selected individuals from recreational sessions will have the opportunity to participate in specialized training sessions tailored to their needs and aspirations. The Development Squad, comprising 20 players, will receive weekly training sessions aimed at preparing them for advancement to the squad.

Squad Sessions – proposed plan:
Players will be divided into two training groups based on ability, separated into groups A and B, where training will be conducted on Monday sessions. To be able to compete in BUCS matches, attending these sessions will be compulsory.

Group A: Monday 7:00-9:00 am
Group B: Monday 8:00-10:00 pm

Other than that, there will be training on Tuesday and Friday with a coach, which will be filled on a first-come-first-served basis

Tuesday 7:00-9:00 am
Friday 7:00-9:00 pm

Players will also have access to a club night once a week on Thursday. This is a fun play session for players across different teams to play with and against each other.
