Introduction
I am Brian Wong, a year 1 computer science student looking forward to serving
as the sports director in the upcoming year. I am interested in continuing to be
involved in sports even after high school, and being involved in the Hong Kong
Society also makes me feel like being in a home away from home. Therefore
this position allows me to be involved in both of these things at once,
organising sports events and contributing in this community.
Main roles and responsibilities
As the sports director, I will be responsible of the management of all sports
teams, including recruitment, rehearsals, practices and competitions
throughout the year. Sports teams will include football, basketball, volleyball,
and cheerleading. Another main role for me is the Leeds games preparations.
This will include organising sports events, preparation of props and seeking
sponsors.
Experiences
I have already been actively involved in sports teams in secondary school. I was
part of a division 1 school football team for 5 years, and also part of a youth
district team for 3 years. After leaving Hong Kong, I also joined the second
school football team in high school. I believe these past experiences of mine
will be useful as I understand how sports teams operate and have also been a
part of it which allows me to understand how to make members’ experiences
in the team more enjoyable. In terms of leadership experiences, I was a
founding member and also the vice president of the esports club in secondary
school.
Visions and goals
As proposed sports director, I aim to:
1. Creating a welcoming and positive atmosphere in sports teams: I believe
by having an atmosphere like this, members will be more active and
engaging in activities throughout the year. Also, this will more likely make
the year more enjoyable for them.
2. Increase communication and collaboration opportunities with other
university societies: This will allow us to organise more events
throughout the year for our sports teams. Members, especially freshers
will also get the chance to know people from other universities and
expand their social circles, providing a more fruitful university life for
them.
3. Actively participate in most, if not all activities: I believe by joining in the
team activities more as a participant role rather than a manager or
organiser role will strengthen bonds between members and committee
members. It will also be easier to collect feedback and opinions from
members and improve our operations and activities.
Conclusion
I am looking forward to the opportunity to serve as the sports director in the
coming year. I believe with my experience, skills and passion for the role will
benefit and positively impact the society, creating a successful and memorable
year for everyone.
