Hi everyone,

I'm ecstatic to be running once again to be your Faith Rep!

I have a long history at Leeds University, doing a BA, a MSc, and now a PhD here. I also have a long history of working in LUU on issues that matter to students – I've served on the Activities Executive in numerous posts since 2021, and I was a Liberation Coordinator in 2022-2023.

This year has seen major turmoil on campus, requiring me as Faith Rep to work closely with affected societies and students communities. I've been collaborating often with outgoing Equality and Liberation Officer Haryati Mohammed to address LUU's approach to Islamophobia. This work has been very successful – our efforts to centre the needs and voices of our Muslim students has led LUU to recognise and address areas in need of improvement, particularly in Help and Support. More recently, we successfully passed a Better Union policy to continue this work.

Additionally, I've been very fortunate to have been able to work closely with the Islamic Society this year on addressing on-campus Islamophobia in the direct aftermath of the bombardment of Gaza. This earned me a Faculty-level Partnership Award for "Global Impact".

This coming year is going to need a continuously vigilant commitment to student safety. I want to continue pushing LUU and the University to take Islamophobia seriously and to improve their reporting procedures for it. I'm looking forward to working more with the incoming Equality and Liberation Officer on this, as well as with the rest of the new Student Executive and with the phenomenal PET Team at LUU.

I'm a person of faith (specifically Christian Orthodox), so I understand and affirm the need and the right of students to practice their faith (or no faith) on and off campus. You can count on me to be reachable and accountable to you, and to advocate on your behalf.

Vote for me to continue holding LUU and Leeds University accountable, and to continue the fight against Islamophobia and all forms of xenophobia and hatred!
