I wish to take on the role of the quartermaster so that I can take ownership of organising equipment and merchandising, which will ensure the smooth running of our scout’s society. I personally have enjoyed the range of activities we have organised this past year, and I hope to make sure that next year is full of activities that cater to all interests.
I have served with my own scout group (1st Osterley) since I was a beaver and have achieved up to the platinum scout award. So, I have a lot of experience with scouting and scout related activities.
For two years of my Duke of Edinburgh Award, I was a beaver leader who helped in the organising of meetings and activities, so I have some experience in helping a scout related organisation.
I have been in attendance for the majority of socials and outings of the society since I joined two years ago, and I am well known among its attendees. I am known for my reliability.
I have the time and energy to devote to the society and its committee to make sure that it is run as smoothly as possible
I have served with the previous year’s committee and worked alongside the current quartermaster. This experience will be useful in ensuring that this year runs smoothly too, as I have the knowledge to organise equipment and order the merchandise.
I aim to help in the organisation of the society by fulfilling the role of the quartermaster in making sure all equipment and orders of merchandise are organised in the proper fashion. I will endeavour to help with the planning of further scout society socials alongside the other committee members. I am confident that I can assist the operations of the group to run smoothly, and to allow as many members as possible to enjoy the wonders of scouting.

Hi everyone! Hope I’ve met most of you at evening socials but if you haven’t met me yet, I’m Leah and I’m a Bsc Geography student currently undertaking a year in industry at Arup. I’m really excited to be coming back to uni in September and I’m looking forward to being able to get more involved with LUUSAG again!
// I’ve been involved with Scouting and Guiding since I was 6 when I joined Beavers and since then I have been part of Brownies, Guides, Explorers and now Network and SSAGO. I was a young leader at my old Beaver colony for 4 years and since becoming an adult in Scouting I have taken on the role of District Scout Network Commissioner for my local district. Having done this role for 2 years now I’ve got lots of experience of working with people within Scouting and I hope that I am able to transfer this knowledge into the quartermaster role. I have also had the opportunity to complete many awards through Scouting including all my DofE awards and my Queen’s Scout Award and I hope to get more involved in this side of the society as a personal interest.
// The role of Quartermaster would be well suited to me because I really enjoy organising things, making sure everything runs smoothly, and ensuring everything is in its place. I’ve also managed equipment in the past through Scouting and at my local canoe club. I hope that I can use this knowledge in the Quartermaster role to make the most of all the equipment we have. I helped to document an inventory of everything in the chapel last year and this is something I hope to be able to continue to ensure that everybody knows what equipment is available for them to use. I would also look to keep a formal record of borrowed equipment to ensure it is all returned after events.
// One of my key aims for the Quartermaster role is to connect and build a relationship with other groups within Scouting / Guiding who have access to different equipment than us. An example of this would be borrowing hammocks and having this as an alternative option to tents. This has worked really well in my Network group in the past (apart from me falling out of my hammock, I promise it doesn’t hurt that much!) and I find that once groups are confident that you will return equipment exactly how you found it, they are happy to share resources. I already have contacts in Keighley and East Lancashire Scouts I am looking to broaden this further.
// I’m also really excited about organising the LUUSAG clothing orders. I think the committee have done an amazing job of expanding the merch we have over the past couple of years, and I hope to carry this on. I will listen to your suggestions of what you would like to see and work closely with the Treasurer to make sure we can get orders to you as fast as possible. In my current network role, I am responsible for ordering and distributing neckers, nametapes and badges so this knowledge will transfer into the Quartermaster role.
// Being part of a society whilst on a placement year has allowed me to still feel like a student and feel connected to the university whilst I’m working. I would really recommend to anyone who is considering a year in industry to do it and to be a member of LUUSAG as you can have the best of both worlds! I have so many SSAGO highlights, but Viking Rally and Once Upon a Ball have been my favourite events so far. I also enjoyed Whistle Punks this year (despite hitting the board a grand total of zero times) and I’m really looking forward to being back at pub lunches.
// Being Quartermaster will bring together all the skills I’ve learned in Scouting and after two years as a member of LUUSAG I would love to be part of the committee. I’m excited to show what I can bring to the role!
