I would love to get involved with Friends of MSF because I am passionate about the work MSF do, and someday hope to work for them myself. I have always loved travelling, and plan to take a year out from my medicine studies next year to spend more time volunteering and working abroad. This obviously takes a lot of organisation (the Dean doesn't take this lightly!), so I can apply these skills as secretary at FoMSF to make sure everything runs smoothly and everyone has the support they need.

Hi, I’m Abi. I’m a third year medical student, hoping to intercalate next year in global health as it a subject I am passionate about. I would really love to get involved with Friends of MSF as MSF is an organisation whose work I have followed for some time and one with which I hope to work with in the future. I am keen to help fundraise and raise awareness for the important work of the charity, as well as play an organisational role as part of committee. It would be great to see the society also branch out to students outside of healthcare and I’d be happy to organise future fundraising events such as the Yorkshire Three Peaks challenge.

Hi, I’m Tessa, a 2nd year medical student. I would love to be part of the MSF committee. My interest in the organisation began after reading the book ‘War Doctor’ which really highlighted the challenges faced in global healthcare, such as the inadequate resources and extreme demand for medical care in many places. This inspired me to want to join in on combatting the humanitarian crisis that we are currently in. I have a keen interest in global health, in making healthcare easily accessed and affordable in communities with less established health care systems and bridging the global inequality gap. I hope one day to be able to work for the organisation.

I recently joined the students without borders programme to try to continue with my French so that I could have the chance to work in French-speaking countries for the organisation in the future.

Over summer, I regularly read the MSF newsletter to keep up to date on the world events. I’d love to be part of the committee to help to try and raise more awareness as well as fundraise for such an important organisation.

Hi! I’m Raeley, a third year medical student and would really love to have a committee position on Friends of MSF.

Global health is a really big interest of mine and it is what I am planning on doing in my intercalation year. I gained interest in this in I&P last year where we studied different healthcare systems around the world and the disparities between them. This inspired me to do further research into healthcare inequalities such as watching TED talks. One that I found particularly interesting was on maternal care for patients with HIV as it emphasised the sense of community that can form with patients, healthcare professionals and volunteers within countries where the healthcare system isn’t as developed.

This was something that I found translated into MSF from the experience of others when they spoke about the sense of community and friendships that came with working for them and inspired me further in my interest to work with MSF in the future and to attend events this year.

I would love to be able to work with Friends of MSF to raise awareness for them and funds which I have experience in from being sponsorship secretary for Leeds Medic and Dentist Netball to raise funds for the club, as well as helping to run our charity tournament this year.
I hope to further inspire my interest and the interest of others in this position!
