My name is Ella Dempsey, I'm from Hertfordshire (... Watford) and I'm currently in my second year of studying Psychology at Leeds. As Psychology students we all understand the importance of mental health and wellbeing. Focusing on this and maintaining a welcoming community is something I would take on with great care being your potential welfare sec.

As someone who struggled in the first few months of freshers, I understand the support that a friendly face around can provide - and PsycSoc really gave me a lot of them when I joined! Whether it’s living away from home, a stressful workload, relationship problems; having someone to talk to is crucial during university. I would love to be a go-to support system and give back to the society after it has helped me so much. As welfare sec, I would act as confidential support in times of need.

Further, taking care of yourself and your wellbeing is also about having a good time, and as someone who grew up with only PRYZM Watford as an option, I know how to make a good time out of anything! As a welfare sec I would ensure that everyone in the society has the fun they deserve after challenging coursework and lectures. To achieve this I will do everything I can to make socials inclusive to all, with open ears for any suggestions that can make them more accessible. Additionally, having a safe time is crucial and I am always looking out to make sure everyone stays together and gets home safe. I would love the opportunity to make sure that everyone has the best time being in PsycSoc.

Hi, my name’s Connie and I’m a 2ed year BSc Psychology with Education student. Mental health and wellbeing is something I feel very passionately about and I believe that no one should struggle in silence. I’m a very kind and open person who would be happy chat about anything on your mind that might be troubling you, whether that be problems inside or outside of university. Or if you just need a friendly face to have a coffee and a natter with.

I am currently a 2nd year psychology student with a particular interest in mental health and wellbeing. Recently, I had the opportunity to volunteer on a UK wide project called Generation Evolve, in which I worked with a group of individuals from around the country to develop materials to promote mental health awareness in young adults. This was a valuable experience that I believe will enable me to effectively provide resources and information on wellbeing for PsycSoc members, as well as having given me applicable experience in developing wellbeing initiatives.
I also volunteered as a peer mentor for my previous school for 4 years, leading to me running the program for the final 2 years, for which I undertook a training programme - the Wellbeing Ambassador's workshop, created by Worth-It. This course involved learning effective communication and appropriate ways to deal with an individual’s sensitive and personal information. Furthermore, as part of the peer mentoring programme, I regularly wrote and presented talks on relevant topics, such as on ‘Emotional Awareness and Active Listening’ and on ‘Self-Esteem and Academic Success’.
I hold several relevant certificates, including a QPR Suicide Prevention Training certificate, as well as several talk attendance certificates from Mindspring Mental Health Alliance. I also have a Functional Cognition Training certificate from NASW, and a Wellbeing and Social Action Project certificate from Global Youth Mobilization.
Due to these above reasons, I believe I would be a good fit for the PsycSoc Welfare Secretary Role. Wellbeing is a topic I am very passionate about, and I have a lot of relevant experience that would assist in my role as a Welfare Secretary.

Hi everyone, I'm Loredana and I'm a third year! If you think I'm looking a bit familiar, that's probably because I was at your welcome talk during Freshers week! I'm always looking for more ways to get involved with our Psychology community and I'd love to be your Welfare sec this year. I regret not running for committee last year, so this new role opening up is ideal. Being SCC, I have a really good standing relationship with everyone in our school, and I'm very friendly and approachable, so I believe I can really help sort any issues within the society, and be another friendly face amongst the fab committee we already have.
