I'm keen to bring my experience as the founder of the MedSoc at my old school to the Outreach Officer role at the Access to Medicine Society. I set up and led the society, which was pivotal in helping over half the students applying for medicine get offers from their top choices. I thrive on connecting with the community and sparking interest in medicine among young people. With a proven track record in creating engaging opportunities and practical resources, I'm committed to making medical school accessible to students from diverse backgrounds.

I am a hard-working, committed and conscientious student keen to be a part of the A2M team.
I believe I am well suited to the role due to my good communication skills that I have honed through a variety of opportunities and can work well with others in order to meet deadlines in good time.
Since I have joined Leeds Medical School I have become aware of the widened existing societal and structural inequalities in medical schools.

This has sparked my avid interest in EDI and I am keen to use my current skillset to diversify and decolonise access to medical school.

Being part of a society that’s aim is to address this is so important to make sure aspiring students get the same opportunities that we did.

Being involved from the start with A2M has been a great experience and I would love more time as Outreach Officer to engage with prospective medical students in the local area. My aim is to formulate a standardised PowerPoint to deliver to schools via teams between in person events, as well as Q+A sessions to maximise benefit for all students involved.

I think consistently having interactions with students and building close connections with local schools will allow A2M to develop their positive impact on students even more and I really hope I can continue being a part of the journey !

As a first-generation medical student who has triumphed over formidable obstacles to access Medicine, I bring a profound understanding of the hurdles faced by underprivileged students. My journey has been marked by a dearth of resources and connections, yet propelled by resilience and an unwavering commitment to drive positive change.

Throughout my application journey to Leeds Medical School, I actively sought support and guidance, finding invaluable assistance through Access to Leeds events like mock MMI sessions and application tips workshops. These experiences not only equipped me with practical skills but also bolstered my confidence.

My dedication to widening access extends beyond personal achievement; I have actively engaged as a mentor and tutor, offering tailored support to aspiring medical students from underprivileged backgrounds. Through one-on-one mentoring and group tutoring, I have witnessed the transformative impact of personalized guidance on their aspirations.

Serving as a Health Sciences student ambassador, I have passionately engaged with prospective students, sharing insights into my journey and igniting their interest in healthcare careers. Through outreach initiatives in local state schools, I have had the privilege of inspiring students who may not have considered Medicine as a viable option.

My commitment to access is further demonstrated by extensive volunteering in state schools, where I have facilitated workshops, delivered presentations, and provided support to students aspiring towards healthcare professions. These experiences underscore the critical importance of tailored guidance in dismantling barriers to entry.

In the role of Outreach Officer, I am dedicated to leveraging my experiences to enhance access initiatives at Leeds Medical School. I am eager to forge stronger connections with schools in the local community, generating innovative opportunities to inspire interest in Medicine. By producing resources and organizing relevant trips, we can equip students with the tools and exposure they need to pursue careers in healthcare.

Through collaborative efforts and strengthened partnerships with local schools and community organizations, I am committed to empowering aspiring medical students from diverse backgrounds to realize their potential. Together, we can pave the way for a more inclusive and equitable future in healthcare education.
