Since applying to medical school, access to the course has been such an important issue to me. Coming from a widening participation background, and applying using the A2M scheme to get into Leeds, it would seem that disparities in education would cease upon admission, however this simply wasn't the case. Medical students from less advantaged backgrounds are systemically disadvantaged in a career which is becoming increasingly reliant upon networking, starting in university, to get into competitive training positions. I believe that all students should have equal opportunities irrespective of background.

As your treasurer, I will ensure that finances are overseen in an effective manner, enabling more funds to be directed towards helping not only university initiatives to widen admission to the MBChB, but also to aid current students in gaining experience, connections and insights into specialties of interest.
