Hi there everyone, my name is Basil and I'm one of the 2nd years!! :D

With Cardio soc being a more academically focused society for students with an interest for cardiology/cardiothoracic surgery, education plays a huge role in this to help us as students to get a flavour for what these specialities hold in the future, along with reinforcing core knowledge for medical school.

I very much enjoyed attending the HYMS Cardiothoracic Conference, which had the support of the Leeds Cardio soc, as it was a great opportunity to meet other medical students/doctors, along with helping me understand the new technological advancements in the field and the training pathway to become a CT surgeon.

The online teaching session hosted by Dr Emily Dean this year was a great refresher on the different types of heart blocks and how to interpret them on an ECG, and I felt her clinical twist/scenarios helped myself to retain this information better than before.

By being next years education representative, I want to continue such teaching sessions, along with possibly introducing a mentorship scheme (which has been done by some of the other MSRC societies) to help us along this journey of deciding and committing to a future in cardiology.
