Hi everyone, I'm Shan and I would like to be your inclusion officer for Cardiosoc this year!

Making CardioSoc a more inviting and inclusive environment for all members is something I'm dedicated to doing with my expertise in event planning and community participation. Ensuring everyone feels appreciated and has the chance to fully engage in our activities will be one of my main priorities this year. As a current Access2Medicine society member and upcoming committee outreach officer, I hope it is clear that I have the experience and skills necessary to advocate for inclusivity and diversity within our society. My experience with A2M has taught me the importance of accessible events and the impact of creating spaces where everyone feels welcomed. As a medical school admissions mentor, I’ve also improved my organisational and communication skills. These abilities are essential for leading creative and thoughtful CardioSoc inclusion initiatives. Furthermore, my background in helping people with the challenges of applying to medical school has given me the compassion and knowledge required to create a welcoming environment where everyone feels appreciated and encouraged.

If elected, I have a clear vision ahead of where I will:

1) Organise conferences and activities that take into consideration the various demands of our members/attendees while maintaining accessibility and diversity. This could involve holding short workshops all year round on inclusion and diversity.

2) Encourage feedback by setting up a way for people to contribute their ideas and opinions so that we can keep improving society and work towards a culture of inclusivity where everyone is encouraged to take part.

3) Collaborate with other student organisations around the university to jointly organise activities and campaigns that advance diversity and inclusiveness. Together, we can make a greater difference and build a more cohesive community.

I'm excited about this opportunity to contribute to CardioSoc and look forward to working together to create a more inviting environment for everyone.

Hi I’m Kripa, a second year medical student and I would like to be a part of the cardiology committee as inclusion officer.
Cardiosoc has been an engaging and upcoming society over the last 2 years that covers all aspects of cardiology, offering in depth discussions from specialists, echo teaching and more. Within the last year, cardiosoc’s event explaining the pathway to becoming a cardiologist and various opportunities and options accessible within cardiology as field really caught my attention. It offered the opportunity to learn first hand from both consultants and junior doctors more about cardiology as a speciality and gave highly valuable insight into the field that would be difficult to obtain elsewhere.

Being the first medic in my family, I am aware of the various obstacles that first-generation medics and members of minority groups face, as well as the potential consequences these obstacles can have. As the inclusion officer, my primary objective would be to increase diversity and engagement in cardiosoc so that all students with an interest in cardiology—both cardiac physiologists and medics alike, feel accepted and included in the community. In addition, I would play a part in resolving issues that emerge from an equality perspective. In my role as an inclusion officer, I would also like to attempt to uphold diversity in the events that are suggested, promoting speakers such as consultant cardiologists from all backgrounds, so that adequate representation can be achieved in all aspects.
