I’m Sam and I’m standing to be your next treasurer of the Leeds 93% Club!

I have just completed my BA in Politics and Religious Studies, and I’m staying at Leeds to complete an MA in International Relations. In my spare time I row for the University and volunteer at Rainbow Junction, a pay-as-you feel food waste café in Hyde Park.

I have prior society committee experience, having been treasurer of Leeds Labour Society in my second year as well as being the student representative for my degree programme. As treasurer of Labour, I always sought to ensure financial accessibility within the society by reimbursing member’s campaign and travel expenses in Leeds and beyond from a financial inclusivity fund.

I also have experience in organising socials and events with local and national political figures. I believe the connections I have made can make a valuable contribution to the Club’s wider networking structures, particularly for members looking for opportunities and experience in politics and the political sphere.

I’m proud of my state school background and want to play my part in widening the 93% club’s network on campus and beyond. I will do this by:

- Working with the incoming committee to organise socials to help members meet other like-minded students on campus, building a friendly and inclusive community for all students from state school backgrounds at Leeds.

- Expanding our presence on campus, at fresher’s fair, and throughout the start of the year to reach as many new members as possible. I’m committed to freezing the membership fee to keep the society accessible and easy to sign up to for new members, particularly at the start of the academic year.

- Signposting new members towards the national Club’s professional’s network, where they can receive advice, guidance on job/internship applications, and the opportunity to network with prospective employers.

- Applying for new funding from the LUU activities fund, something I have experience in doing from my time as Labour treasurer. This will be key to expanding the Club’s resources and reach on campus as a result.

Despite my past experience on other committees, I’m actually fairy new to the society and it’s because of this that I’m open to suggestions from current and future members on how we can best run the society to everyone’s benefit.
