Hi ! I’m Riya and I’m a 2nd year business management student and would love to run for publicity and social media secretary!

Last year I went on the yoga retreat myself not knowing what to expect, having no experience whatsoever, I was pleasantly surprised to see so many people in the same boat and it truly is a warm, friendly society that is full of amazing people. This encouraged me to continue classes and after a trial of a variety of classes, I found myself drawn to the friday kundalini yoga classes. A classic myth is that there is one specific type of yoga and the requirement to be flexible which is completely not true at all and being publicity and social media secretary, I aim to break down these stereotypes by promoting the beautiful benefits of yoga and how accessible it is to everyone! I will make sure I promote our safe and inclusive place and add links for resources on social media pages. I have plans to widen our social media platform to facebook and perhaps tiktok to get more engagement and promote our diverse and welcoming society to wider audiences.

Yoga has now adapted into my lifestyle for good and it has transformed the way I see things as well as improving my mental health. From struggling to cope with stress and dealing with anxiety, it has brought a lot of light and positive energy into my life through its practices and people. I believe the power of education is important and aim to post about the roots and culture of yoga as well as using the role to encourage more people to the benefits of yoga and hopefully can see some more new faces next year. It is a wonderful society to de-stress and it would be a pleasure to help the society flourish and grow.
