Hi everyone! I’m Emma and I would love to be your welfare officer next year! :)

I originally discovered yoga through my passion for mental health advocacy and holistic wellbeing. I have undertaken many courses/qualifications in mental health and well-being such as suicide prevention training and mental health awareness in sport and physical activity. These courses then lead me to hear about yoga and I believe in spreading the message of yoga as more than just a physical practice. I am eager to contribute to the welfare and holistic development of our society members and make sure everyone feels safe and welcome.

As your Welfare Officer, I am determined to advocate for the mental and physical health of our community. I believe that my training and background will be very useful in directing individuals to inclusive resources and being a friendly face to talk to! I want everyone to feel that they have someone they can approach if they are just not feeling their best.

I would love to promote wellbeing more within our society by liaising with the social secretary to organise events solely for mental health. As part of this, I would like to promote more human connection within the society as this is plays a huge part in wellbeing and community. A lot of the time in yoga, we get on our mats and there is no connection between one another so I would like to support the social secretary to organise more events where we can get to know each other and build a supportive community.

I am also committed to promoting the principles of intersectionality in our wellbeing initiatives. I believe that by celebrating the diversity within the society, we create a more inclusive space for all. I would like to promote more disability awareness and help people to find a class that is suitable for their needs and can help them in their wellbeing journey.

I am so excited to hopefully attend the retreat for the first time this year! If I am appointed as wellbeing officer, I will aim to make this experience one in which people feel nurtured, safe and respected.

Finally, I will regularly update our Linktree, ensuring it contains a diverse range of resources so there is something there that can resonate with and help everyone. By providing easy access to inclusive resources, we can give everyone the information they need to support their wellbeing. Everyone should have the resources and the knowledge they need to help them feel their best!

I am deeply passionate about spreading the message of holistic wellbeing through yoga and am committed to positive change within our society. I want to be a friendly face for everyone and listen to everyone's ideas. With your support, I am confident that together, we can create a community where EVERYONE feels supported, empowered, and inspired to live their happiest, healthiest lives.
