President
Without question the most time consuming role available to a student at Leeds University. You have the final and absolute say about all matters relating to the largest society on campus and one of the largest societies in the UK. This is a massive responsibility!
President is open normally to people who have been on committee for at least one year already as they know what the job involves to some degree and will have an easier transition into the role. This is not absolute, as there will be an extensive change over process with Willy prior to taking over the role, but some committee (not necessarily Snowriders) experience is preferred.
Along with the Vice-President and the Treasurer, the President is responsible for all official matters such as; being signatory on the club accounts, reviewing and rewriting essential paperwork, drafting contracts with sponsors and companies and above all, leading the club in the best direction you can.
The role of the President is mainly management of the other committee positions ensuring everyone is pulling their weight and that members are happy with what is going on. The President is also the first point of call for anyone who has issues with the club; be that the Union, the University, the holiday company, bus drivers or a bar manager, you must be diplomatic but ensure the club doesn’t lose out. You are the protector of the club’s reputation.
As the President you should know exactly the role of each committee member and be able to ensure that they are doing it to the best of their ability. Things go wrong all the time, it is inevitable. However it is up to you to stay calm and rectify all the problems and keep things behind closed doors.
The first and probably biggest decision to make as President is which holiday company to sign with and the resorts to go to. This is done through sales meetings after the AGM (literally the day after) and will be a decision made mainly by the President, Secretary/Vice-President and the Holiday Organiser with input from the rest of the committee if needed.
Being President has the wonderful benefit of being able to pursue your shining vision for the club and leading your committee through a successful and progressive year.
