1. Why do you want to apply for the treasurer role?

I am currently studying Economics, which has provided me with a strong foundation in understanding and managing financial matters effectively. My academic journey has equipped me with crucial skills such as budgeting, financial analysis, and cash flow management, all of which are essential for the role of treasurer. As a Sikh, I hold the principles of seva and being part of a strong sangat in high regard. This role will allow me to consistently engage in seva and build meaningful connections within the Leedscommunity, thereby strengthening our local sangat. I am dedicated to upholding the values of Sikhi, ensuring that the financial resources entrusted to us are managed wisely and used for the greater good of society. My Sikh values will serve as a foundation for making ethical and financially responsible decisions that align with the values of the society.

2. What relevant experience do you have that will allow you to be successful in this role?

In addition to my academic background, I have practical experience in managing the finances of a family-run shop, where I was responsible for tracking cash flow, budgeting, and handling transactions. This hands-on experience has sharpened my ability to oversee financial operations and make informed decisions, while also developing my leadership, organisational, and communication skills, which will be essential in order to collaborate with society members and sponsors.


3. How will you contribute to and improve the society?Please share any ideas you have for the year!

One area that can be improved is the physical activities of the society as not only does it have health benefits, but it is also good bonding and social time for society members. As of last year, the sports aspect of the society was not advertised and consistent enough. This year we can improve this by posting a lot more on social media and forming group chats as well as asking society members what sport they would like to take part in to get a consensus of numbers. This will allow us to secure more memberships as those who are attending consistently will be more likely purchase one and allow us to give a proper budget towards hiring a sports venue weekly/fortnightly for sports.

4. Can you commit to your responsibilities and alsoattending all main events and something once a week followed with Sikh Soc Meetings via Teams or in-person?

Yes, I am committed to all my responsibilities as not only treasurer but also as a member of the society. I know and understand this role will require a lot of behind the scenes work to ensure we are well equipped for the costs of current events scheduled and any future events we may plan. In addition, I acknowledge this role will require clear communication with other committee members so everyone is clear on our financial situation and can move forward in planning events appropriately and according to the financial information I have told them. I am available to attend all main events as well as the society meetings both in-person and via teams.
