Hi everyone! My name is Aisha, and I am a first year Politics, Philosophy, and Economics student. I am really excited to apply for the position of Wednesday Project Coordinator. Having been a member of STAR this last year, and a regular attendee of the conversation classes, I believe that I will be a great fit for this role.

As a volunteer at the conversation classes, I have firsthand insight into the dynamics of the sessions and the needs of both refugees and volunteers. My commitment to inclusivity, collaboration, and continuous improvement aligns closely with the values of our society. Furthermore, my previous leadership roles in school, such as running my college’s literary magazine, have helped me to develop organisational and communication skills, which will help me to effectively deliver the sessions. I am confident in my ability to engage volunteers, facilitate meaningful discussions, and create a supportive environment where refugees feel valued and empowered.

This year I have experienced firsthand how STAR has encouraged community, empathy, and practical support for refugees. Building on the foundation laid by our current Wednesday conversation class sessions, I am committed to ensuring continuity while also looking for opportunities for growth and development. Next year, I hope to increase participation in the conversation classes by actively recruiting more volunteers and encouraging more refugees to attend.

I am truly grateful for all of the amazing people I have met through the conversation classes this year and can’t wait to meet many more in the future. With your support, I am confident that we can continue to create a welcoming, inclusive, and supportive environment for refugees and volunteers alike.
