About Me:
My name is Niamh (pronouns she/her) and I’m a second year Theoretical Physics student. I have been a member of several volunteering societies throughout my time at university as well as having volunteered for a number of other causes throughout the last 10 years. I am particularly passionate about refugee and asylum seekers’ rights and global health equity.
- My first big volunteering experience was when I was chosen for the Diana Award National Anti-Bullying Youth Board when I was 13.
- Throughout the years I have worked with a number of policymakers, including a long term role on the Youth Panel for the Northern Ireland Commissioner for Children and Young People.
- One of the coolest volunteering experiences I took part in involved speaking at the EU parliament in Brussels!
Why Me?
- I have 10 year of volunteering experience in a wide range of areas- from helping run local children’s drama classes to participating in structured dialogue projects that were taken to national and international policymakers, I’ve done it all
- I have experience working on panels and with decision makers to advocate for change and make things happen!
- I’m approachable and enthusiastic and ready to listen to all societies.
- I have previous committee experience so I know what goes into budgeting for and running a society.
- I have been a course rep for theoretical physics for the past two years- I know how to take in feedback and advocate for what students need.
My Goals:
I want to make sure all volunteering societies feel they are getting the funding and support they deserve.
I want to create regular opportunities for societies to give feedback on what their society needs.
I also want to work on encouraging more students to join volunteering societies and make them feel welcoming and accessible to all, no matter how much previous knowledge and experience people have- volunteering is for everyone!

CANDIDATE STATEMENT

I am running for Volunteering Representative because I have always been incredibly passionate about and engaged in volunteering opportunities and I believe student-led volunteering initiatives can have a huge impact on the campus community and beyond. I have spent the last ten years volunteering for a variety of causes, ranging from national and EU advocacy to local children's theatre classes. This has taught me the value of having a strong voice in decision-making processes.

My aims for this role include ensuring volunteering societies have fair access to funding and the support they need to continue and grow, as well as making volunteering societies more visible and welcoming, especially for students new to the university or to volunteering in general- we all start somewhere! I also want to continue to celebrate the amazing work our volunteering societies already do and champion accessibility and inclusion within volunteering societies.

As a course rep and someone with experience on formal panels, I’m used to working collaboratively, handling feedback, and pushing for change. I know how to listen, and I know how to make sure what I hear turns into action. I'm ready to listen to all volunteering societies- big or small, old or new, and will endeavour to ensure all are treated fairly and receive adequate funding. Hi, I’m Faith Kankunda! I’m passionate about community building, activism, and creating positive change, both on campus and beyond. As someone who’s deeply involved in making a difference, I believe I’d be a great fit for the role of Volunteering Societies rep.

I’ve spent my time at the University of Leeds actively engaging with causes that matter, most notably as the treasurer of Students Against Sexual Harassment and Assault (SASHA) society. Through SASHA, I’ve helped organise impactful events, foster safe spaces, and advocate for survivors experiences that have taught me the value of community-driven initiatives and how to plan activities with purpose and heart.

Beyond SASHA, I’m also the Treasurer of the East African Society, where I’ve honed skills in budget management and event planning. This role has deepened my commitment to celebrating diverse cultures and bringing people together.

Volunteering and activism are more than just commitments to me, they’re at the core of who I am. I’m always looking for ways to connect students with causes that resonate and create spaces where people feel they truly belong. If elected, I’ll work to support societies in planning meaningful activities that reflect the spirit of service and community involvement.

Hi, I’m Saanvi (she/her), a Psychology student and former Social Secretary of the Uni Boob Team. I’m running for Volunteering Rep because I’ve seen firsthand how powerful student volunteering can be—for causes, for communities, and for the students who get involved. I want to make it even more impactful, accessible, and celebrated across LUU.

During my time with the Uni Boob Team, I helped organise campaigns that turned awareness into action and built strong connections with both volunteers and the wider student body. I want to bring that same energy and direction to the Activities Exec.

If elected, my goals will be:
-Support and champion all volunteering societies by improving communication between groups and offering spaces to share resources, ideas, and challenges.
Push for more accessible volunteering opportunities that suit different time commitments, skills, and energy levels—so more students feel confident getting involved.
-Raise the profile of volunteering on campus by working with LUU to promote societies’ campaigns and events through official channels and collaborations.
-Encourage meaningful partnerships between volunteering societies and academic departments, local orgs, and student groups to create longer-term impact.
-Advocate for fair and inclusive funding decisions that support both established and emerging volunteer societies.

I’m reliable, people-focused, and not afraid to speak up when something could be done better. I’d love the chance to represent the Volunteering category and help create a stronger, more connected community of changemakers.
