Hi, I’m Eschal. You may know me as CompSoc’s 23/24 Charity Secretary, 24/25 Treasurer & LeedsHack Co-founder!

As a member of CompSoc Committee, I founded our first ever charity partnership with Computer Aid and worked with the committee to make our ball into an Annual Charity Ball where 25% from all tickets sold went to charity. I also founded our Charity Casino Night to raise money for charity which was a popular event for which we received a lot of positive feedback. When I was Charity Sec we raised more money for charity than ever before. As Treasurer, I’ve kept track of all our finances as well as coordinated with the union to improve the way our finances are managed. I’ve also gotten us partnerships with companies such as Virgin Media O2. I did all this whilst on placement working a 9-5 too!

I also co-founded the inaugural LeedsHack. As an organiser, I was in charge of all financial decisions made. This included budgeting, monitoring all financial streams & handling expenses. Furthermore, I was in charge of sponsorships. I co-ordinated sponsorship payments and can now probably make an invoice with my eyes closed. I solely secured Pexip, IMDb and rebuildingsociety.com as sponsors - raising £4000 for the event. In addition to handling finances and sponsorship, I sorted out timetabling for the event, prizes, catering quantities & communications with on the day volunteers and sponsors.

As your Academic Societies Rep, I will aim to strengthen connections between societies and foster a collaborative environment. Additionally, I want to improve societies' relationships with industry professionals, providing students with valuable networking opportunities that can support their future career goals. I also would like to work towards better recognising the charitable contributions made by academic societies within LUU and ensure their efforts receive the acknowledgment they deserve.

Hi, I’m Mohammad, and I’m running to be your Academic Societies Rep on the LUU Activities Executive.
As someone deeply involved in academic societies throughout my time at Leeds, I’ve seen their power to build confidence, spark curiosity, and turn classmates into communities.

But I believe we can do more — and I’m ready to lead that charge.

A little about me:
I am the School Representative of School of Computer Science and an Educational Engagement Ambassador. I’ve spent the past two years working with students, staff, and University departments to shape academic experiences, resolve challenges, and turn feedback into action — and I’m excited to bring that experience into this role.

I have also been nominated and shortlisted for the Leeds Partnership Award on 'Academic Rep of the Year' category for the upcoming ceremony.

If elected, I will:

🎤 Academic Societies Roundtable
I’ll launch frequent Roundtable where society committees can share updates, raise concerns, and collaborate across schools and faculties. These discussions won’t just stay in the room — they’ll shape policy and decision-making. I’m used to building consensus across different voices through my current roles, and I’ll make sure your ideas are heard by the right people.

🔗 Facilitating Cross-Society Collaboration
I’ll help foster connections between societies by encouraging more cross-disciplinary collaborations. Whether it’s co-hosting events, planning joint socials, or organizing collaborative workshops, I’ll make sure societies have the support they need to team up and create impactful experiences together. It’s all about bringing diverse ideas together to make something special!

🧪 Grant Booster
Many societies miss out on funding not because they’re not eligible, but because the process feels unclear. I’ll run “Grant Booster” to demystify the system and support your applications — drawing on my experience advocating for student-led projects and helping peers refine proposals that get approved.

📚 Spotlight Your Success
Academic societies are doing amazing work — from putting on standout events to running creative collaborations — and I want to help shine a light on that. I’ll launch an “Academic Society Spotlight” to celebrate your achievements and share them across campus and online, helping you build your profile and connect with more students.

🎓 LUU Academic Excellence Week
I’ll initiate an annual Academic Excellence Week — showcasing student-led research, industry panels, skills workshops, and society-run events. A full week to celebrate the brains behind our societies and give everyone a platform to shine. It will be like a collaborated events with all the academic societies!

💼 Turning Society Experience into Career Confidence
Let’s make sure everything you do in your society counts beyond uni. I’ll work with the Careers Centre to connect academic societies with industry mentors, run workshops that boost your LinkedIn and CV, and put together an LUU-backed guide on the leadership skills you gain through society roles — so you can show future employers just how valuable your experience really is.

🧭 Support for New & Reforming Societies
Starting out or trying to bring a society back to life? I’ll be there to guide you through the process — from shaping your structure and goals to finding the right people to talk to. I’ve worked closely with departments, student groups, and the LUU team to get things off the ground before, and I’ll make sure you’ve got the support you need every step of the way.

💬 Policy by Us, for Us
I’ll take your feedback and concerns to shape policies that truly reflect the needs of academic societies — whether it’s making recognition processes simpler or strengthening ties between societies and academic departments. With my experience working on policy at various levels within the university, I’m comfortable handling both the broader goals and the finer details to make real change happen.

I’m a connector at heart — someone who listens, brings people together, and makes things happen. This role is about building bridges: between students and LUU, between societies and their departments, and between your ideas and real-world outcomes. Through my work as a School Rep and Engagement Ambassador, I’ve already proven that I can help make those connections work.
