Hi, I’m Flo! I’m a second-year maths student and I am campaigning to be your Sports Rep for the 2025/26 academic year.

I always knew I would join Rugby Union once I got to Leeds but I didn't expect the club to have the impact it has had on my life. Being part of LUUWRUFC has shown me just how important sports societies are to student life and I’m passionate about ensuring others get to have the same amazing experience. The large variety of sports societies at Leeds makes the student experience here so special and I would love to be involved with its ever-expanding growth.

This year, I have had the honour of being on LUUWRUFC’s committee as the Vice Club Captain. This leadership role has given me great insight into how the union operates and a deeper understanding of the challenges sports societies face. I want to work with the other reps to ensure all societies feel heard, supported, and empowered to grow. Having had a year of committee experience, I am well equipped to be a strong and reliable voice in representing all the sports societies in discussions with other reps and the union.

From giving insight and being involved in conversations around the Women’s+ Sports Participation Project, I have heard from other societies about what they need from the union. Participation is vital to keeping sports thriving and accessible. I understand the importance of making sure there is funding for all, ensuring no society is left behind. I also want to improve access to all facilities, working to guarantee that every sports society has a fair opportunity to train, compete, and bring their communities together. This growth and change cannot happen without people campaigning for it. The backing received from the union changes everything for societies. For many students, cost is a massive barrier to joining, initiatives like the Plus Programme are essential in allowing all students to enjoy and flourish within these societies. I will be a strong advocate for ensuring that schemes like this remain accessible.

To summarise, I would love the opportunity to represent all the sports societies, helping us all grow and excel. I want to improve the communication between the union and committees to make sure everyone is supported in their roles and can deliver the best year of sport yet!

Hi, my name is Erin and I’m currently in first year studying physics. I am applying to be the sports rep for Leeds sports societies.

The society which I’m part of is Women’s Rugby Union, but I have been playing rugby union for over 4 years. Over these past years of playing rugby, I can recognise how playing a sport can really improve someone’s physical and mental health by having a space where you can focus on the sport and have space away from normal life- including the issues these present (i.e. our studies). This has led me to want to advocate for people to join team sports because I understand the positive impacts exercise can have.

I will prioritise considering different people’s ideas and, from that, advocating for funding into helping societies and their issues. I believe I am easily approachable and easy to talk to. This will aid me as a Sports Rep because I can then listen to people’s issues or ideas and then assess and solve these issues. Being a senior prefect in secondary school gave me experience in talking to large crowds. I feel like this has helped in my confidence conveying myself to different people but also in my overall communication skills.

I will additionally advocate for inclusivity within sports. Being in a women’s sports society has inspired this for me because we can recognise how there can be less funding for these female societies. I hope that during my time as Sports Rep I can aid these societies in gaining more funding. I will work on the advertising of different female societies so they will gain more members and this would make allocation of greater funding easier. I will work with different societies over summer in this advertising. I have considered different ideas of how to do this. I can recognise that social media is very prevalent in this generation and so we could utilise that to advertise women’s sports more. The social media posts would include ideas of ‘trying out something new’ and being welcomed despite having no experience. I will then contact the Leeds Sport social media page as a Sports Rep to ask if they would then post on behalf of these societies. This should therefore have a great impact, gaining more popularity within female sports societies.

I can recognise that as a university student, membership costs can be really difficult to pay for. I hope to be in contact with organisations like the Plus Programme to talk about how they cut down costs for those who are eligible for the programme. I will be in direct communication with sports committee members to ensure they emphasise that the Plus Programme is available to certain people so that they get their discounted price on the membership costs. I hope to work with societies to discuss decreasing membership costs to be more affordable.

I want to encourage the collaboration of different societies. This would decrease society expenses and develop greater interaction and relationships within different societies. For example, if smaller societies shared social venues. This could lead to smaller sports societies continuing. I want to see these smaller societies flourish and so I hope this method can help them.

Hi! I’m Mohammad, a passionate and active member of the Archery Society and I’m excited to nominate myself for the role of Sports Societies Rep on the Activities Executive.

Being part of a sports society has been one of the most rewarding parts of my university journey. From building strong friendships to developing leadership and teamwork skills, I’ve seen first-hand how vital our sports societies are to student wellbeing and campus life. Now, I want to help shape and support that experience for others.

As Sports Rep, I’ll:

* Champion the needs and voices of all sports societies, ensuring your feedback directly influences LUU policy and funding decisions.

* Advocate for better access to training spaces, equipment, and opportunities that enhance both competitive and casual sport experiences.

* Push for more inclusive and collaborative events across all levels of sporting ability.

* Work closely with the Activities & Opportunities Officer and LUU staff to represent the priorities and challenges faced by our sports community.

I believe in the power of sport to unite people, build resilience, and create unforgettable university memories.

If elected, I’ll ensure that all sports societies – big or small – have a strong voice on the Activities Exec, and that our collective impact on student life is recognised, celebrated, and supported.
