Hi, I’m Ben, I’m a first year aerospace engineering student and I’m running for trip secretary. I’m fairly new to climbing but it is something I have really come to love. Having joined the society at the start of year, I felt immediately welcomed and have since thoroughly enjoyed my time spent with the society whether that be on trips, socials, down at Big Depot or the Lab on a Sunday. I feel I have learned a lot about climbing this year having been on the Peaks and Wales trips last semester, going bouldering at least 3-4 times as well as rope climbing at Big Depot, but I am really keen to learn as much I can for the role.

At the start of the year, I went on the Peaks trip knowing only one other person on it, initially I was quite nervous about this but I found the way the trip was set up to be very social and by the end of it I came away having spoken to a lot of different people and made a lot of friends within the society. As trip secretary this environment on trips is something I would really like sustain, with the right balance of the size of the trips, so its possible to get to know people you perhaps wouldn’t normally get to know. I would also be really enthusiastic about looking into doing some longer trips around 5-7 days with the society, over the holidays between semesters and at least one international trip a year.

Hi, I'm Abi, a first year Law student and I'm running to be trip sec in 2024/2025.
As trip sec one of my main aims would be to make the climbing trips as accessible as possible by ensuring beginner friendly climbing is available on every trip.

Here are some other things that I think would be great:
- Having the opportunity to learn trad climbing earlier for those interested, with plenty of opportunities to practice on trips.
- More day trips, including those which are easily accessible by public transport, so we can get more people outside more often without having to rely on cars.
- International trips being an annual occurrence - organised for as low cost as possible.

I like to think I'm pretty friendly and approachable and while I'm definitely not the best climber I'm very eager to improve. I'm organised and enjoy the logistics of planning trips. I also have a little teaching experience (looking at a former Brownie club leader), and though I'm not the most experienced outdoors, I think it would be helpful to have a trip sec who can see things through the eyes of a beginner.

My name is Samuel Shepperson, I am a first year Geophysics student and I am running for the roll of trip sec for 2024/2025.
My main aims for my position as trip sec would be to:
1. Solidify the international trip in our yearly trip calendar.
I believe this is an important contribution to the club’s trip calendar as it will allow members to gain experience climbing in the greater ranges of Europe and beyond. Members will be able to push their skills and knowledge beyond what the UK has to offer, creating a wider knowledge and skills base within the club which can be passed down to future climbers.
2. Improve accessibility to trips for climbers new to outdoor climbing or outdoor activities.
This would be done through the purchase of a few club sleeping bags and roll mats and would allow climbers who are new to outdoor climbing or do not have the facilities to purchase these items to partake in club trips. This is an essential for the club as it will allows more members partake in trips and again help expand the skills and knowledge of the club.
I believe I would be a good trip sec because:
1. I am talkative and friendly.
2. I am well organised; I am currently the rep for my course cohort, and I held the position as captain of the rugby team throughout high school.
3. Most of my time is spent planning trips in my head, so it would be great to bring some of the too life.
4. I am excited to explore new places through climbing, this means I would bring lots of passion and drive to the role.

I’m Nathan, a first year product designer, I'd be an excellent trip sec as a well organised friendly face, with a commitment to inclusivity. I like to think I have a sense of humour and definitely an ability to laugh at myself. But I have a reassuring side for anyone who might be struggling or nervous to do something new, while still challenging them without any risk.

I've been climbing for about 3 years now. Since starting uni, I boulder at least twice a week and also try to get on ropes. This weekend, I'm heading to the lakes for my first trip with the society. Although I applied for all trips except one, I didn't get on any. As future trip secretary, fairness will be a priority, ensuring as many members as possible get opportunities. Having experienced the importance of fairness first-hand, especially for those new to rope climbing like I was. I will make selections equal for all.

I think it’s obvious to say, but something I’ve loved from the society and climbing events, is the social side of things. Making new mates, and just generally having a sound time while climbing. This is something I would highly prioritise, continue, and add to; organising new evening socials on trips, a definite international trip, longer trips and just generally having a wicked time. With it all being safe of course!
