Hi my name is Eleanor but you can call me Elie! I’m a MSc Student in Sustainability and Consultancy and I think I would be an amazing Engagement Officer for LSSC!

My primary aim as LSSC’s Engagement Officer would be to share LSSC’s inspiring mission within our society, our university community and to regional professional networks through our social media accounts.

At present, social media is currently underutilised within the society. Social media is essential for our mission at LSSC because it allows us to engage directly with the community and showcase our skills to a variety of audiences on different platforms.

In order to achieve this, I would take the following actions:

Posting LSSC and its member’s achievements, goals, and activities on LinkedIn and Instagram.

Creating a Facebook page to target more small businesses as 90 million business owners reportedly use the site - 90% more than LinkedIn (SocialChamp, 2021).

Communication for members to be in the know-all through WhatsApp, other communication platforms and a regular newsletter.

Members feedback - take LSSC member’s feedback and suggestions into account if they feel like something’s missing from our social media.

Why do I think I would be a good candidate for this position? I believe communication is one of my strongest skills. Working in fast-paced environments has led me to understand the importance of precise communication with fellow members and our target audience of small businesses.

Hi! My name’s Freya and I’m an MSc Sustainability and Consultancy student this year. I’m applying for Engagement Officer and am excited to further the LSSC brand among students, local businesses, and beyond!

I would love to re-vamp the LSSC social media platforms, Instagram and Linked In, to ensure they are bright, engaging and promote the core values and work of LSSC in a way that’s easily understandable for all students, regardless of their degree background. A major strength of social media is its easy-to-digest format, and I would love to provide consistent content to share knowledge and insights, in a fun way. This could include updates on LSSC projects, small news segments, industry trends, consultancy top tips, case studies, and just general updates to keep the community informed (similar in style to accounts such as Simple Politics or SOS-UK). This could even expand to short interviews with academics or professionals to share their experiences or advice. I would also love to provide the opportunity for other students to get involved in creating digital content to share news/ideas that interest them, to provide tangible experience in creating short-form content for sites such as Instagram and Linked In.

Keeping up to date with the sustainability agenda and business space is essential for anyone looking to go into this career area, so providing this as a service (on a small-scale) I believe will be very beneficial for everyone. And of course, let’s not forget keeping posted on social events and helping the LSSC community grow! I believe LSSC should give all students the opportunity to develop their passion for sustainability in a form that excites them, and I’m looking forward to see where we can take the society in the coming year.
