NO MORE IMPOSTER SYNDROME!

Dear LUUTIS community,

I am Phway, a first year BSc Banking and Finance student. Being a member of LUUTIS since 2023, I understand how helpful LUUTIS is for us students to pursue a career in high finance. I am nominating for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Secretary 2024/25, as I look forward to a more inclusive atmosphere within LUUTIS and the high finance industry.

Personally, being from a minor ethnic background back in my home country, I understand the feeling of being an imposter. No one should feel this! Our uniqueness gives us the privilege to stand out as a powerful voice, as mentioned by Stella from UBS. Her words from a networking opportunity I attended stuck with me, hence my motivation to become a DEI sec.

As your next DEI sec, I promise to make sure every member feels included, regardless of the type of diversity. This will be achieved through hosting interactive events and collaborations to promote job opportunities for students from underrepresented backgrounds. You should also look forward to events with guest speakers from diverse backgrounds because they are great motivators and evidence to keep working towards our career aspirations!

My name is Hsu, 1st year (going into my 2nd year 24/25) in Banking and Finance here at the University of Leeds and I am running for LUUTIS DEI Sec 24/25.


Being part of the society as a member since 2023, and learned a lot of useful knowledge about high-finance careers. As a woman in the industry, it's important to start promoting diversity and inclusion right from the university level. I want to contribute to this effort in my role with GAIN (Girls as Investors) and other groups outside of it to increase the chance of getting spring weeks and internships for those in underrepresented backgrounds. Additionally, getting a mentor who can help to achieve your desired career.


I hope you'll consider me for this role and I believe I can make a big difference at LUUTIS with my experience and networks. Providing me with an opportunity to help us make our community more inclusive and diverse - as the next DEI Sec.

As a first-year BSc Computer Science student and active participant in finance and investment spheres—including the 2024 LSE Alternative Investment Conference, LUUTIS Virtual Fund Analyst role, and the NorthEdge Private Equity Challenge—I've been deeply involved in initiatives that bridge the gap between diverse communities and the finance industry. My experience as an iRage Brokerage Analyst Intern has equipped me with insights into the importance of inclusivity in finance. My vision for the Trading and Investment Society is to foster an environment where diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) are not just buzzwords but the foundation of our community. I aim to collaborate with cultural and national organizations to enhance our society's diversity, develop mentorship programs to support underrepresented members, and ensure transparent communication about our DEI progress. By integrating my passion for finance with a commitment to DEI, I aspire to contribute meaningfully to our society's growth and inclusivity.
