Having been a member of the Leeds University Union Squash Society since starting at the University two years ago, I feel that now is the time to give back to the society by applying for the position of Vice President. Not only has LUU Squash provided me with countless opportunities to improve my skill set within the sport, but it has also enabled me to socialise and make friends with like minded people who also share a passion for the sport. Despite not playing a role on the committee as of yet I have seen how the society is organised, what’s its values are and the high standards it operates under.

Squash is a sport loved by many people ranging in all abilities, which is something that I wish to carry forward should I be elected as Vice President. Creating a welcoming and friendly environment for people to play and enjoy the sport is perhaps the most important aspiration for me, as I believe everybody should be able to make friends and play in various events organised by the society no matter what individuals abilities may be.

In the past few years there have been a number of highlights for me personally including playing my first match for the Men’s 2 teams against Bradford, participating in the Easter singles tournament despite a disappointing performance and how could I not mention the glorious victory from Bertie and myself in the doubles tournament. As VP I want every member of the society to have the same opportunity to progress and create fond memories. I can not fault the current committee on the running of the society last year, although as VP I would like to take the society to the next level. I want to achieve this in a number of ways including: more socials catering to everyones tastes, more in-house tournaments and a charity partnership to raise money for a good cause doing what we all love. The position of VP may not be an easy one, but I’m up for the challenge and prepared to put the time and effort into admin, ensuring the smooth running of training and of course working closely along side the valued President of the society.
