The Salsa Society at Leeds gave me a lifeline. After most of the friends I’d made in first year left for their year abroads, it was SalsaSoc where I met the people who made my second year amazing at university.

When I first joined, it was the people who motivated me to return. This year while living abroad, I have been attending salsa classes, but the one thing that has been missing for me has been the community aspect. I’ve realised the importance of having a joyful and warm environment to learn the dance, coupled with incredible teachers who are passionate about teaching.

I also fell in love with the dance itself, and have been pushing myself to improve. Like me, I am sure there are plenty of people in the society who will want to improve. This is why I believe the more oppotunities made available to the community is vital, but free of any pressure. Salsa should be welcomed and loved by all levels.

But it’s not just the dance that’s a skill, I’m also a very organised person who would excel at maintaining records, agendas, and whatever else needs attending to. This is why the role of vice-president/secretary suits me so well.

If you elect me as vice-president/secretary, I will work to protect the friendly environment as well as ensuring you have all the best resources in order to improve your dancing.
