Pandit Mete for Education Officer
A Education Officer Who Listens, A Voice That Stands for You
Hi, I’m Pandit Mete, an MSc Management student and the Faculty Officer for Postgraduate Taught students at Leeds University Business School. Through my role, I’ve seen firsthand the challenges students face—academic stress, hidden course costs, and struggles with accessibility. But more than that, I’ve noticed that many students hesitate to reach out for help. I want to close that gap.
As your Education Officer, I won’t be someone you have to book an office appointment with—I’ll be just an email away, always available, always listening. You’ll find me in every corner of the university, talking with students and making sure your voices are heard.
My Priorities:
💷 Affordable Education & Mid-Semester Performance-Based Scholarships
Hidden course costs can add an unexpected financial burden on students, including expensive printing fees, field trips, essential learning materials, and software or online resources that some students must purchase separately. I will push for full transparency in tuition fees and advocate for financial support options, including performance-based scholarships in the second semester. If students have already paid their tuition, these scholarships should be awarded as a refund, recognizing academic excellence and easing financial pressure. Instead of increasing fees and placing a greater burden on students, the university should explore alternative funding sources, such as government grants, industry partnerships, research collaborations, and commercial activities. As Education Officer, I will work to ensure financial sustainability is achieved without compromising students' access to affordable education.
📚 Assistance in Resolution of Academic Problems
Many students face academic challenges that could be resolved through better communication and support. As Education Officer, I will advocate for a simpler and fairer submission process, minimizing confusion around deadlines and providing clear guidelines. I will work to prevent unfair penalties, ensuring that students who submit assignments on time but encounter technical issues are not penalized. Additionally, I will push for a quicker and more transparent resolution of academic disputes, making sure that student concerns are heard and addressed in a timely and effective manner. By streamlining these processes, I aim to create a more supportive academic environment for all students.
🎓 More Job Opportunities for Every Student
Gaining work experience during university is crucial for career development, yet many students struggle to find suitable part-time jobs, internships, and paid placements. I will work to expand opportunities across all disciplines so that every student can gain valuable experience without financial strain. To achieve this, I will collaborate with businesses and organizations to create more internships and placements while expanding on-campus job roles in university departments, libraries, and research projects. Additionally, I will strengthen alumni and industry networks to connect students with mentors and career opportunities, ensuring they gain meaningful work experience to support their future success.
📘 Practical Learning Opportunities & Exam Modifications
I believe that practical, hands-on learning is essential for students to fully grasp their academic subjects. As Education Officer, I will advocate for more practical learning opportunities across all courses, allowing students to apply their theoretical knowledge in real-world settings. Additionally, I recognize that some closed-book exams require more time than is currently allotted. Whether due to complex theory or numericals that take longer to solve, I will push for longer exam durations for courses where additional time is necessary. This adjustment will ensure that all students have a fair opportunity to demonstrate their understanding, regardless of the challenges posed by time constraints.
Your Voice, Your Education
If elected, I will be the Education Officer who is always accessible, always listening, and always fighting for you. Let’s make university a place where every student feels supported, heard, and empowered.
