Hi everyone, I’m Mridula, a 1st year medical student, and I’m applying to be your Secretary for Leeds University Paediatrics Society next year!
LUMPS has really strengthened my passion for paediatrics this past year because of its friendly, approachable, and welcoming community and I’d love to actively contribute back by becoming a part of it! I’ve always had a strong interest in child health, developed through experiences including weekly Teddy Bear Hospital visits, child health clinics during GP placements, but especially stemming from volunteering for 6 years in a youth-led mental health forum alongside mentoring younger students at school.

I have developed strong leadership, communication, and organisational skills through representing Article 12 and Youth Voice at a regional CAMHS conference, where I advocated for reducing stigma surrounding adolescent mental health. I have also received awards in essay programmes, including the Homerton College Essay Programme, for my essay on tackling childhood obesity through the UK Soft Drinks Levy.

Alongside this, my active involvement in my school’s MedSoc and Dance Committee has given me lots of experience organising events, coordinating within teams, and managing responsibilities effectively.

As Secretary, I am confident I can deliver in this role by working hard to keep the society organised through clear communication and collaboration, managing emails and meeting minutes efficiently, and being an approachable point of contact for members. I would also love to help organise more teaching sessions, conferences, and opportunities for students to explore paediatrics earlier in medical school.

Hi, I’m Lucy one of the current second year medical students and I would love to be your secretary next year!
Having attended the paediatric conference this year I knew I wanted to apply for a position on committee and become more involved with the society. My interest in paediatrics started in year 8 where I began volunteering as a young leader at Cubs and continued to do so for 5 years. During this time I realised I really enjoyed working with children and since then, my interest in paediatrics has only grown.
I have had previous experience with other volunteer work as well as paid jobs, such as a pharmacy assistant and restaurant waiter. These have helped a lot with time management and made me more confident speaking to different audiences. I believe this will help me to fulfil the role of secretary as I will keep on top of any admin and will make sure to advertise LUMPS events to all year groups.
I would really enjoy being part of such a friendly committee and can’t wait to see what LUMPS will bring next year.

Hi everyone! I’m Riya, currently in 3rd year. I’ve been interested in paediatrics since the start of medical school, and would love to explore more of what it’s about. Paediatrics excites me as I’ve lots experience working with children, and I believe it's an incredibly warm and welcoming specialty with a lot of scope for development as a doctor.

I have experience being on a society committee after being member’s co-ordinatory for Teddy Bear Hospital this year, as well as EDI rep for Medsoc, and treasurer for Heelz dance society, giving me experience in managing different types of responsibilities, and collaborating with different teams. I have also volunteered for two year with Teddy Bear Hospital as well as volunteering in a Children’s hospital, giving me prior experience in working with children. If I was to be on committee I would be a focused member, dedicated to getting involved in events and new ways the society could get exposure.
