Kamusta, Filsoc! I am Oliver Tabot and I will be running for Filsoc 25/26 Events Secretary.

Attending Filsoc events in my first year was honestly one of the best decisions I could’ve made. I felt welcomed as I was surrounded by a community of lovely people who quickly became my second family. From Pixel Bar to Monsta pres, Filsoc has already given me so many memories which has made my first year in uni so special. Now, I want to give back by joining the committee by ensuring the new and returning members of Filsoc have the best experience possible. As events secretary I am excited to share my ideas and gather feedback to guarantee a smooth, successful and eventful year for Filsoc.

Having spent most of my childhood in the Philippines, I’ve been fortunate enough to witness first-hand the activities that Filipinos love for socialising and bonding. Potlucks, jam sessions and group trips are some of the few activities that come to mind that I enjoyed with my friends back home which I’d be happy to implement for the next academic year.

Additionally, as an engineering student and former class president at my Filipino high school, I’ve faced demanding workloads that strengthened my organisational skills. This experience has prepared me to handle the responsibilities and pressures of being a committee member, ensuring that every event is planned and executed efficiently.

Ultimately, I aim to build on the successes of the events secretaries before me and strive to achieve even more. To me, Filipino hospitality is one of our best traits and so it is my wish to make every event feel familiar and comfortable to everyone, whether they are Filipino or not.
