Hey let's get to know me! My names Taylor and I'm a second-year Politics student at the University of Leeds, and I'm passionate about creating spaces where people feel genuinely seen, supported, and empowered. I'm someone who balances a deep interest in mindfulness and wellbeing- thanks to growing up with a Buddhist dad and spending a lot of time around meditation centres- with a love for fashion, creativity, and expression. I do yoga regularly (sometimes just to stay sane during deadlines), and I also co-host Women's Hour for Leeds Student Radio, where I get to talk about everything from gender issues to pop culture and all things women. I find joy in being part of communities that uplift others, and l'd love the chance to bring that energy to Her Campus in a meaningful way.
But why me? I care deeply about people's emotional wellbeing, not just in the big, obvious ways, but in the smaller, everyday moments that often go unnoticed. Whether it's being the friend who checks in, the voice on the radio speaking honestly about mental health, or the person encouraging others to take a break and breathe, l've always gravitated toward supportive roles Being raised around mindfulness practices has shaped me to be calm, empathetic, and a good listener. At the same time, my creative side (I love fashion and making things) means I enjoy coming up with fun and meaningful ways to boost morale and make people feel good. I think that balance, between compassion and creativity, makes me well-suited to the role of Welfare Officer.
As Welfare Officer, my aim is to make Her Campus a space where people feel emotionally safe, uplifted, and included, whether that's through wellness content, check-in sessions, or small acts of care that build community. I'd love to introduce things like monthly mindfulness breaks, resources on managing stress, or maybe even creative, fashion-inspired wellbeing workshops. I'd love to introduce a monthly Patch It Up session where people can bring clothes to fix, upcycle, or simply unwind through knitting and making that I can guide you through. Whether you're stitching a button, learning to knit for the first time, or just watching and unwinding, it would be a chance to reset and reconnect. It's a relaxed, creative space focused on wellness, connection, and mindful, hands-on self-care. I also want to be a point of contact anyone can come to if they're struggling, even just a little. University can be overwhelming, especially for women and non-binary students navigating everything from academics to identity, and I want to help create a soft space for that. My goal is to bring light, warmth, and a steady presence to the team.
