Hello! I’m Joe, I’m a second year student running for EDI Officer for LingSoc. For both years studying at Leeds I’ve found this society to be an incredibly welcoming and inclusive space, and I’d love to continue this into the coming year!

As EDI Officer I’ll work to make sure that members’ opinions and problems (anonymously or otherwise) can always be heard and acted on by the Committee, that a balanced range of social events both with and without alcohol are organised (and that social events featuring alcohol are also accessible for non-drinkers), that resources around inclusivity and student wellbeing, as well as awareness months and cultural events, are always promoted, and that all members, whether new to the society or returning, feel comfortable and welcome at our socials!

In this role I will ensure these aims naturally reflect throughout all society events, creating an accessible and enjoyable environment for all members. I’d love to be part of this society and continue its tradition as the open and inviting space that it is!
