Hi, I'm Emily, a first-year media and comms student who loves social media. I believe I'd be the perfect person for head of social media at LSR for many reasons; firstly I am extremely passionate about LSR and always willing to take part in any challenge or go to any event/social hosted. Secondly, I am relatively confident and extroverted, always the first person to go up to someone and say ‘Can we interview you?’ Thirdly, and not to toot my own horn but I am good at social media, whether it be TikTok’s or Instagram posts/reels I have an eye for what's trending and what's aesthetic and how this can fit into social media. Fourthly, I can get along with anyone and am willing to support anyone with any help or coming up with ideas (I got nominated for LSR’s sweetheart so I feel like that's pretty telling of my character 3)
While I have the characteristics of someone who would make a great of social media, I have the qualifications and experience at LSR to back up my statement. Within my first year at Leeds and LSR, I have had the pleasure of being part of not only one but two breakfast teams. I also have been part of LSR’s hometime team, presenting every Friday during term 1. On top of that, I have had the pleasure of co-creating and presenting every Monday “terminally online,” which covers internet culture and trends from the early 2000s onwards, so I have A LOT of understanding of trends and social media. You’re probably thinking “So she knows a lot about social media and how presenting, what hard skills does she have to be head of social media?” I am part of the social media and podcasting team for LSR news, often interviewing people and editing the compilations. I also have had experience creating TikTok and reels not only at LSR but at other journalism companies such as Bristol 24/7, and won't lie have had success with it, often attracting around 1k-2k views per video.
There is a lot I am willing to do for LSR and its social media, almost too much to fit in this statement but there are four key things I am most determined to contribute. Firstly, make sure LSR is more active on social media and keep uploads more structured and frequent to make sure our engagement and activity are at their peak. Secondly, and arguably the most important, make sure the platforms reflect the station and its members authentically. I feel like every member should be included and represented on LSR’s socials and the content should not stick to one house style (within reason we have to keep it sensible and PG, digital footprints exist lol). Whether it be more serious stuff such as interviews, behind-the-scenes to connect to your audience or just trendy audio to make people laugh, LSR as a station has so many unique and incredible people on the air and we should show it off the air too. Now what am I willing to do to help you? There are two key ideas I have for you and others build your social platform or support your creative output. The first is one-to-one sessions with you on anything you need help with or answer any questions you have on social media, from questions like ‘When is the best time to upload?’ or ‘What colour pallet and typography should I use?’ to me helping you record videos and editing your videos for social media. It's a scheduled one-to-one on anything your heart desires. If you like the sound of that but don’t want it to be scheduled don’t worry my next idea is one I like to call “content hour,” where I will be in the LSR office for an hour on a bi-weekly basis (potentially weekly) where you can come in and talk to me about whatever you want, if its questions, ideas on what to create, or just needing help recording or editing.
So, if you want someone kind, extroverted, and passionate, with a lot of knowledge of what to create and how to create content vote Emily for the head of social and online for LSR 2025/6 3

Amba Tilney

Hi fellow LSR members! I'm Amba, I'm currently a 2nd Year English Literature & Creative Writing Student and a proud member of LSR. LSR has been such a lifeline throughout my university experience, opening up so many doors to me and helping me understand what I want to do after university.
One of the most rewarding things I've ever done (in my life) is join LSR and start The Girls Got Guts on LSR - for me, the social media aspect has been the most rewarding and I've grown the radio show into a Spotify Podcast and newspaper column through utilising social media (Radio is my favourite icl).
Being a stereotypical virgo, I'm a perfectionist and love any social media project to look seamless. I can spend hours perfecting the lining of text and adding illustrations to my posts to make it feel as exciting to look at as possible and reflective of what message I'm trying to share. I have so many ideas for recurring social media campaigns to really showcase why LSR is the BEST Student Radio in the UK - let's get to know the incredible students behind it.
I'm thinking an interview series called 'Live, Laugh, LSR' where each week we interview a member of LSR around campus (Vogue 72 Questions vibes), 'Studio Style Showdown' would have people sharing their outfits for the honour of best dressed of the day in studio. 'SHHH We're Live' would be either a chaotic segment where we rush into the studio during the music to ask hosts a random question or a trivia question before they go back on air. Let's spotlight our members, our interests and share the LSR magic online.
I also would like to start a workshop or drop in session for people wanting help with socials, or if they need support in coming up with ideas, Canva tips and also how to remain safe when trying to build a show. I had a really awful couple of experiences this year with bands taking trying to take advantage of me being a student starting out so I would want to offer support to prevent this from happening. It really knocked my confidence posting and now, I'm feeling more determined and motivated than before, I wouldn't want any other LSR student to feel anxiety over posting because of an experience like this. I'd want to offer help and advice, and try and add preventative measures. Maybe we could implement 'interview booking assistants' to just give students the freedom to let their creativity thrive whilst ensuring safety.
My professional experience in managing two businesses social media pages and my own brand's page (specialising in video content and Canva designs for the grid) also will allow me to dive headfirst into socials and online for LSR and trust me when I say, I'll treat this with all the love I'd give my first born child.
I feel so passionately about this role because I believe in LSR and LSR have believed in me. Without LSR giving me the courage to start my show, experiment with social media strategies of my own for The Girls Got Guts, my uni experience would be vastly different.
If I were to be your Head of Online and Socials, I would love to encourage a team of passionate creatives to join me in creating content - we could film around uni, spread the LSR love around campus even more. I'm thinking let's be big and bold. I want something that says we're here... Beyonce! LSR!
Some of the content I've created can be seen on @thegirlsgotguts for reference - I love a good reel, the analytics go wild when you consistently post reels, so I'd love to experiment with some fun challenges and make our socials personable. 'Social media maths' is the only arithmetic I can do.
I'd love to dedicate my final year to LSR's social and online presence curating it to reflect further the achievements, the passion and the drive we all have for radio.
If these ideas excite you as much as they excite me (it's just the beginning I have a whole word document - virgo...), I'd so appreciate your vote for Head of Online & Socials for 2025/2026.
Vote Amba for the ultimate cool girl socials!
